People forget, these coaches already have jobs. They have all the leverage.

And once one school sets precedent, its hard for any schools after not to follow suit. Look at all the insane contracts that went out after the initial insane contract Jimbo got. Riley, tucker, franklin, I don’t know who else all got nutso 10 year guaranteed deals. You think our deals are bad? Look around, there’s plenty out there that are way worse.

Honestly Kiffin and Stoops have great contracts. Both have strong base salaries and are incentive loaded.

Thanks I found it after I posted. She is a beautiful woman and I have always heard that coaches who have beautiful wives are great recruiters!

Lagway pretty much put the OC rumors to bed today by saying “I fully expect Coach Napier to be calling plays “

Yet this rumor will keep on going...

"we're waiting for bowl season to be over"
"we're waiting for late signing to be over"
"we're waiting for the NFL season to be over"

I do understand what you're saying and unfortunately it's the norm. However, look what that has gotten us over the years. We've paid through the nose to the likes of Muschamp, Mac, Mullen and potentially one more. That's a bunch of cheddar.
Why not try something different and perhaps help lead the way to better changes. Give a base salary with huge incentives. I would not advise a huge buyout right away but with the agreement that we will match and exceed any legitimate offers from other schools.
We have been on the hook now for 3 straight coaches with maybe one more. That's insane. Maybe, it's time to find a coach who is willing to go this route of incentive base since what we've been doing has not worked. Seems to me so called can't miss coaches have been big misses, not just here but in so many other places.

OC, and calling plays is two different things

  16. Sometimes. Some run-based teams actually use the OL coach as the OC. Napier has stated that he is calls the plays and others around him have referred to Napier as the OC. I cannot find any evidence of Rob Sales acting as an OC or play caller.

Napier calls plays for sure. Oc draws em up and I don’t know if sale is involved in the offense or if it’s bs.

Because nobody you’d want will sign that contract. That’s why. Someone else will give them the contract they want with the huge buyout clause.

I agree that the defense was the problem, but can you name a consistent top 10 program where the HC is also filling a coordinator position? The hardest, and also most important, part of successful leadership is recognizing you can't do two jobs and delegating them even if you're extremely good at them.

Even Huepel and Kiffin, who run much more dynamic and unique offenses than BN, have offensive coordinators.
