The opinions about the next game are all over the place: Not worried at all about the Gators. Worried about the Gators. To try and run with the Kats is suicide. If anyone can run with the Katz, it's the Gators. Katz can only lose if they shoot poorly. Katz can only lose if Calipari screws up.
We will win. Because between now and then we are going to learn how to defend the 3 and make free throws.
Hope so. They have some athleticism and height on the inside but it's mostly inexperienced. I give us the edge in the paint. Both teams have good guards and plenty of them.
Sounds like Gator fans have infiltrated their message board. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Ky has basically the same record but they have played much harder competition. I think we will understand a lot after the next 5 games.
Kentucky is 10-2. They have beaten New Mexico State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Stonehill, St. Joseph's, Marshall, Miami, Penn, North Carolina, Louisville & Illinois State. Their losses are to UNC-Wilmington & Kansas. Their NET is #23, RPI #31, SOS #64. It will obviously be a big test for our guys, but a chance to win a huge game on National TV at home. I like our chances, but we have to shoot close to how we did today and MAKE FREE THROWS!
The FT percentage of our center last year and today is not encouraging. Maybe one of the forwards not named Samuel can step up late in the game.
I’m sorry you went there for UK knowledge. This is a UK team that people like me have been screaming for. We have elite guard play and shooters, both of which we haven’t had in some time and we play fast. Our starters are: Wagner- FR- shifty PG shooting is suspect Reeves-SR- playing well, more than just a shooter Edwards-FR- still trying to figure it out, but has ability. Mitchell- SR from WVU- glue guy for us Bradshaw- FR- still trying to find his way, has only played a few games since being injured Bench: Dillingham-FR— shifty guard who is an enigma. He can do some great things, but is maddening at the same time. Sheppard- high basketball IQ, damn good player. I cheer against him doing great as I want him to stay. Thiero- SO- elite athlete and someone we count on to mix things up and be tough! Ugonna- SO- big man just coming back from injury. Shot blocker but not much of a scoring threat. I am worried about this game for three reasons: 1. Florida is very talented and has scorers and athletes. 2. We are suspect under the basket and rebounding the ball. 3. First true away game. I know Cal has a crummy record with this and it is something the team needs to experience. This Kentucky team is the most talented we have had in some time. We have a very high ceiling, but we do have a few weaknesses that you will exploit.
Here’s a good one I saw there… “I don't think any team that wins by outscoring their opponents will be able to beat us.” Good thing for us that UF wins its games by scoring less than their opponents.
On the flip side, we get to the line a lot. We've had 335 attempts so far this year, UK is only at 220. We are top 15 in the country in attempts per game, top 40 in the country in free throws made per game. Obviously we'd like the % to be better, but we are still getting a fair share of points at the line.
We all know how huge it is to get to the line. With us shooting more 3’s I do worry about us falling in love with them. I will say Sheppard has the green light from 30 feet lol.
