Scooby Williams in the portal!!! Chiles and Graham just earned more play time.

I thought Scooby made some nice plays but was a little non-existent in the big games.

 

I think these kids have watched the position coaches on defense turnover and will now play closer to home. With NIL and no transfer penalty, the danger of signing so many kids from outside the State of Florida is you will have a revolving door. I personally think 70 to 80 percent of players on be from Florida. Will make rivalry games more meaningful. Will make playing for your State school more meaningful. Portal for out of State kids and HS recruiting from Florida unless a high 4 or 5 star like Lagway.

Coaches may think best to clean house and bring in a portal player they like better for the role. Certainly not a difference maker.

 

That average grade is about as good as any best game for a Gator db. Obviously under different competition.

I was really hoping for great things with Scooby, Wingo, and Borders...I had visions of Spikes and Siler dancing in my head.

I guess us Gator fans can't have nice things anymore.

 

Yeah our LB play was bad this year and losing James you could see a huge drop off. Wingo is a downhill LB and needs work in pass coverage. Losing Scooby isn’t great but he was expendable in my opinion. He made plays vs Charlotte and McNeese but I don’t remember any other big games where he stood out. I like Wingo in run defense a lot and think Graham and Chiles instantly make us better at the LB position.

 

Weren’t all three of those Mullen/Grantham specials?

 

Who knows...they were all highly rated and made it to campus though.

 

It was a shitty defense. Mullen holdovers leaving from it aren’t going to cause me to lose sleep. He probably saw the writing on the wall with new guys coming in.

 

Maybe...I like experienced depth and new guys with zero college experience can rarely be counted on to perform adequately from the jump.

Lots of posters here were saying the same thing about the OL we lost last year. You saw the results when the inevitable injuries occurred.

 

We can all see with this new era of NIL and transfer portal keeping depth pieces is hard. If Scooby thinks he should be a starter and not have to worry about new guys coming in that’s his choice. I don’t expect he will end up at any big time program.

 

Yeah, I don't either. Maybe if he is worried about incoming Freshmen he should head out. I thought Wingo out-played him late in the year anyway. With James coming back from injury, maybe he was worried.

The new landscape sucks and I’ve said many times I don’t think UF is equipped to handle the new SEC with Texas and OU and NIL. It’s kinda why I’m Meh about it. I’m inclined to play the long game with BN to see if he can bring some type of stability. He is at least making course corrections. Good or bad time will tell. Will he win anything significant? Probably not.
