I’ve read that uga has had to seriously up their nil money to keep kids from opting out. Money talks.
I’d still rather have University of Florida on my degree than UGA. We still pretty much own them in every other athletic endeavor and academics. They like Bama bought themselves a winning “culture”
Yep, and when I was a kid Ga Tech used to have a somewhat equal following in that State, but 60 years of oblivion after the stupidest decision in the history of decision making will do that to a program.
Sure, but as @staticgator suggested they have lost the State as far as a fan-base is concerned. They got too big for their britches (like FSU is doing now) and left the SEC in the early 60's and have become irrelevant for the most part.
That’s not at all what I’m saying. Most of the people who support UGA football, such as the cops who protect the players, have no dream of attending UGA. They just cheer for the helmet. Same with Alabama. The GA governor actually went to UGA and lives in Athens. He didn’t go to Yale and then pretend to support the state schools when it is politically beneficial. And UGA’s acceptance rate is increasingly difficult, too. I’m saying 60% of the people in Florida that could be doing dirty deeds for the Gators would rather spit on us because they are FSU or Miami fans.
I think FSUs demise last night is a clear warning sign that over reliance on op-in players is not a good long term strategy. These opt-in players, for the most part, are mercenaries who will bolt when the NFL or other college teams beckons. Gators and Napier need to build from the bottom up, however we may not give Napier the time he needs. Opt-in players should only be a suppement for obvious defciencies.
They are not a football powerhouse but it has more to do with the students than being in the SEC/acc. GT student body are largely math, science, and computer nerds that could care less about football (my daughter is one of them). They are more focused on internships and co-ops with technology and engineering companies then bowl games and recruiting.
Generally, they were always the pick of the more uppercrust, educated fanbase going back 100 years. UGa was always the team of choice for the redneck, never darkened the door of any college type fan. By leaving the SEC, Tech left a big chunk of their fan-base. Most UF fans aren't aware that Tech was just as big a rival for UF as UGa was back in the dark ages. What your Daughter is experiencing may be similar to what is going on at UF these days since it became an extremely highly rated public school.
Someone said that UGA was the real team overlooked by the bowl committee not FSU. They let a win over Bama slip away and the committee decided to take only one SEC team. There is a very good chance that UGA could beat anyone in the playoff but that is life. We need a 16 team playoff but I will take a 12 team playoff over 4 teams.
KS imo is an excellent college hc. He has learned from past mistakes, he has surrounded himself with top coaches, he is intense and a top motivator. Like all gator fans I hate uga but you have to admire what he is doing there at uga. I don't see uga slowing down for a long long while and hopefully he goes the pro route.
Sounds like sour grapes if you're inferring uga has to pay for top players. They have always recruited well and like bama they seem to coach well, develop players, win games and send lots of players in the nfl.
I tried to agree with u ! I understand Georgia is “the school “ unlike UF . I expanded to give u some condiments to support that but I guess you couldn’t put it together. We pooped in our own bed. We should be the dominant school but we didn’t take care of business. Whatever, guess we are on a different planet.
Noooo everything ug does is above board, they're sweet angels that wouldn't ever cheat or create laws such as "Kirbys law" which got a reporter fired for exposing things that happen there.
I believe many schools are leaving part of their traditional fan base and actual academic diversity behind in the pursuit of academic statistics. My daughter was excepted to every school she applied to including UF but if I had to apply today I don't think I would be able to get into many schools short of Alabama these days.
