I don’t think that’s a large enough sample. Look at Muschamp’s first two years and you’d have him third, despite being arguably the worst coach at UF ever, certainly in my memory (too young to remember Doug Dickey).

Seems that your ranking is similar to fsu's when they tried to validate their belief they should be in the playoffs. If it comes to number of posts required, you don't measure up, especially for trolling.

It's all subjective, but in my book we should never have hired guys who had not been HCs, especially Zook and Muschamp.

Kirby seems to be doing ok with no hc experience.

I don’t think there’s any proven formula for this stuff. Sometimes it just works, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Id say Kirby is an outlier going back to his alma mater.
Spurrier, Urban, Saban and a bunch of others had HC experience prior to winning NCs. That doesn't mean experienced HCs will be successful but at least they have the experience of running a program which coordinators don't have.

I think it would be more interesting if the list also included Charley Pell, Galen Hall, and Gary Darnell. I think that’s when the Gators first started making serious rumblings on the National scene.

  12. My criteria is rather simple: record and championships.
    1. Meyer was 65–15 (81.25%) with two national championships.
    2. Spurrier was 122–27–1 (81.88%) with one national championship. He is my personal favorite as coach and restaurant owner.
    3. Mullen was 34–15 (69.39%). I wish he could have worked out. His record at Florida was 29-9 (76.32%) before he seemingly gave up.
    4. Zook was 23–14 (62.16%). One thing in his favor is that he never had a losing season.
    5. McElwain was 22–12 (64.71%). Between the shark humping, the Claribelle QB dog arrogance, the Will Grier situation, the strength and conditioning program, plus his handling of racism at the end (which I happened to see firsthand) I really disliked Mac for a long time. I dropped him below Zook for the reasons above plus the losing season.
    6. Muschamp was 28–21 (57.14%). I debated putting him below McElwain just for losing to Georgia Southern irrespective of winning percentage. I liked him at first, but his sideline temper tantrums became annoying.
    7. Napier is 11–14 (44.00%). He seems to be a nice guy with a plan that works better on paper than in the real world. He would need to go undefeated in the 2024 regular season just to match Zook’s record at UF. If he makes it to 2025 he would need to go undefeated in the regular season to beat Mullen’s winning percentage. Even if he went undefeated three years in a row he would not match Spurrier’s or Meyer’s winning percentage.

You can't put Muffcramp ahead of McHorse Teeth.
The latter actually knew X's and O's and took us to two SECCG's.
Regardless of the controversial circumstances and the way he left us.

Darnell was only an interim, so not comparable but Pell and Hall, sure. Add in Dickey who was the coach for almost all of the 70s.

Anyone that understands coaching can cancel any list that puts Urban over Spurrier. SOS didn’t NEED a caller, nor did he change the way we play in the conference. So much to say about that but you either know or you don’t. You can’t just count nattys because a) Tebow and b) it was a different time in picking champions.

Ray Graves was a huge figure in UF history and can be reasonably described as the father of modern UF FB. He famously brought Steve Spurrier to UF and won more games than any HC in Gainesville, since Coach Van Sickle. He did it again with the Super Sophs, where he crowned his all too brief career by taking out Doug Dickey's Vols in the Gator Bowl. Graves was a visionary in the way he built and used what was by the standards of the day a very strong passing game - along with RBs like L Smith, Durrance, Harper, Dupree, etc. - along with strong defenses that set the table for Spurrier, et al. But I digress. As usual.

    Yep.

The original post is just another navel examining, retard Gator Country thread.

And pay attention to the posters that get excited about it.
