I asked for Specificity about 1 up, 2 back. I asked because I don't see that. So, again, what are the specific examples of 1 up, 2 back?

You did hit on coaching, but that is college football. Alabama's staff is in constant flux. A LB coach "unexpectedly left"- huh?!? He was offered a promotion at another school. That's how it's supposed to work. 100's of assistants leave for promotions every season. So, again, what are the specific examples of 1 up, 2 back here?

 

Do you understand the logic that being a “starter” on a team that’s gone 5-7 back to back doesn’t mean you’re a championship-level football player?

What if Billy made sure to hang onto all 22 “starters” from 2022? And 2023? Yeah, let’s keep all these guys on the roster because they were starters on a bad team, so we can limit the number of potential upgrades.

I swear, no matter whether CBN ran them all off like Deion did at Colorado, or hung tightly onto all his 2-deep — or anything in between — people here would bitch. Bitching and predicting doom seems to be all that many here contribute

Absolutely agree. There are many players on this roster that are addition by subtraction when they declare for the portal.

And if McC, Douglas, ETN, Princely, Hill and Mac are players that the COACHES wanted to leave, then I'm good with that. Their perspective and judgement is way better than mine. If coaches want them gone and think we have better to replace them, thats awesome!

I'm assuming, though, that it isn't the case for these. And if that assumption is true, then regardless of our record, losing 6 starters from next year's team is a big blow that will almost certainly make us WORSE, not better. Some starters are better than others. And those 6 guys were excellent players, IMO, and a big part of the reason why we even won the 5 games that we did. Maybe we hit a portal homerun and upgrade 3-4 of those spots, but it's honestly a big ask.

And, Skink, by that logic, none of us should be upset if we lost the ENTIRE ROSTER, since we were not a good team last year. I think we were a bad team, but had some very good players. I'd like to see us keep the good ones (obviously) and add talent. That's how a roster is developed and a team improves, over time.

I think it’s unlikely you’ll ever know what exactly transpired between the coaching staff and each individual player, so no matter what you believe, you can’t prove it. There’s likely hundreds of variables at play. All that matters now is that they’re gone. Move on. People still bringing up White as some huge loss, for Christ’s sake. The dude doesn’t even play football anymore.

 

Is there any evidence to suggest the opposite?

 

I addressed some of them earlier. I'm sure they wanted Etienne to stay. Probably wanted Hill to stay as a senior leader of a young secondary but I don't think it's a stretch at all to believe the staff was fine letting Princeley and some others go. Dude was way too concerned with Twitter and responding to his performance criticism. Hadn't heard anything bad about McLellan but as others noted he was getting passed by others which is disappointing because he looked like a potential star last year. I hardly noticed him this year.

Not hyperbolic. Your main argument was that because those players were starters on a bad team, losing them is no big deal.

My main argument is that all starters aren't of the same caliber or potential. I think those 6 players made us a better team last year, and losing them is unfortunate.
