Let's see where we net out at the end of the day. Want to see quality departures? Look at the 21 who have entered the portal out of UGA - some 5* and many 4*. We would be losing our chit. Look at the portal departures for OSU. It's happening everywhere. Let's see where we land as we head into spring practice and judge from there.
He had a good year. I don’t believe it either but would not be shocked as he’s good. I feel he was our best defensive player but some say Princely. Tough thing is We don’t have a guy at the Star to take his place. I like Denson but he’s not Hill yet.
Which of our "5 starters" that we lost are high quality players? Yes, Etienne is good, but we're absolutely loaded at RB, so we'll survive that loss. Princely is a talented player, but takes too many plays off and is out of position trying to do his own thing far too often. And like you have said, there are plenty of talented guys waiting in the wings to replace his production. All they need is the opportunity. We have already touched on Hill. Yes, it hurts to lose him, but there's no reason why he can't be replaced by a similar player from the portal.
Not true. Nyland Green was a 5* out of high school. The talent departure comparison is not even close when you review their list.
Is Douglas any better than Dike who we brought in? Don't you think Jean and Mizell have a higher ceiling than Douglas? Mazz wasn't a good fit here and wasn't a good player for us, nor do I think he would have started here next season. I think he was encouraged to leave. McClellan, the guy who slid down the depth chart on an underperforming DL? I don't think we're going to miss him. For a guy who obsesses about bringing in impact players from the portal, you should be loving these departures. We need guys to leave so we can make room for whoever we bring in. So why do we overvalue some of these middling "roster cloggers" from a 5-win team?
I never like to see starters like Hill leave or starters in general. It’s different if we talk about the running back room as we have several guys to replace him. But we don’t have anybody to step right into his possession and perform as he did. Like Dike and have praised his signing but our WR room is thin. Douglas would have helped for sure.
Take a closer look. How happy would we be with departures like this?? It's happening everywhere. Let's wait and see how we net out after our additions.
But... how many of these guys would start on any of the top 10 teams? Love they came here, but this could be a sign better talent is OTW, or already here waiting to break out & would have taken their snaps. It should be telling everyone on that list was NOT a surprise to the coaches except ETN speaks volumes.
They haven't reviewed anything. They're just certain our attrition is craaaaazy and everyone else is keeping all of their players.
Maybe because they are from a 7-loss team? In all seriousness, I don't think most think that Hill is "no good". But he likely wasn't "great" or "elite". He wasn't all-SEC. In fact, Princely is the only departure who was all-SEC. On a positive note, we had 4 players who were SEC all-freshman. So talent seems to be improving in some areas. Time will tell ...
College football pretty much sucks now. I love my Gators probably an unreasonable amount, but it is becoming harder and harder to tolerate all this nonsense. Good luck Mr Hill.
