That I doubt the coaches wanted to leave. Yes, our team isn't great. But the absence of each of those guys makes us WORSE, not better.

 

This is an obscenely ignorant hyper negative post. Very suspicious for a "UF fan" that keeps track of these things. Last year, Shane Mathews talked about "UF fans" like you. It makes sense.

For people paying attention to what happening to all the schools in the portal. They understand this means nothing.

UF has already upgred two of the transfers with incoming transfers in Slackman and BCD. Some more upgrades will be coming aboard the nexttwo weeks, too.

 

Boy, this portal thing is bad for UF.

Why is this happening to UF and not other schools?

 

Timing is everything... especially in hiring and firing coaches.

Can you name a P5 team that has lost 5 starters to the transfer portal? Maybe there is another (OSU is close...maybe?). But I'm not aware of one.

Ignorance is acting like it is happening to lots of other teams (it isn't) or that it means "nothing" (yes, it does).

I want Billy to succeed. I like him more than any coach we've had since I was student in the glory days of the mid 90s (Incidentally, i was watching Shane sling it around in the Swamp in 92). But to do that, CBN has to figure out how to hold on to our quality players and committed recruits. Between those two groups, the last month has been AWFUL for our program. We've lost more than we've gained at this point, and we can ill afford to do that.

Pointing that out isn't negative. It is stating the obvious. Glazing over that or explaining it away as "this is just the new college football" is both hyperbole and, frankly, disingenuous.

 

Someone recently said (paraphrasing here)... you can't keep coaches based on their recruits. It's sad to here some players and recruits do leave, but I think it's an excuse for "iffy" players to find more lucrative options that suddenly became available.

 

Does anyone believe that?

 

also sad to me that the talent level of 3 starters (excluding ETN and McClellen as not draft eligible) are not good enough to be drafted high enough in NFL to warrant going pro vs any NIL they may make. Princely May have been a day 2 pick but more likely day 3. Mazzcua off a down year and injury. Hill has had two ACl tears- his draft ceiling will forever be limited.

kingsley, who did go pro, would probably also be better off making NIL next year as could go undrafted.

outside of Ricky Pearsal, will any gator get drafted? The lack of NFL talent - especially in the upper classes- was and is a huge problem.

Hill- also saw Nick D.s twitter that Bama in the picture (moments after Hills announcement. Tampering?)

 

Good thing the season doesn't start tomorrow.

Keep in mind, we were the youngest team in the conference last year. Guys are going to take a big step, and the players that decide to leave just gives us the opportunity to upgrade through the portal or giving underclassmen an opportunity. Honestly, I'm not sad about any of the players we lost. Etienne may be talented, but our RB group is strong with a ton of depth. None of the others will be missed IMO.

 

Bama couldn't possibly tamper per all the Saban fans here....

Is tampering even against a rule? I haven’t seen the written rule, if there is one. Who enforces it? Most of this stuff would be done through back channels anyway and nearly impossible to prove unless people snitch on themselves. Regardless, tampering is happening, and will continue to happen.

 

Not sure but coaches have made several mentions of "tampering" recently. Has anyone enforced anything the past 15 years? Sorry but I will never believe that Bama and Georgia didn't rise to prominence without selling out completely to breaking the rules knowing the NCAA was feckless and would ignore any illegal recruiting knowing they would hinder the new age cash machine that college football has become.

 

What ranked program has lost 3 starting OL in the portal and 2 others that started the next year for other SEC programs? Answer - None. I guess if you like losing we are right where we want to be

 

Graduate Transfer

 

If Bama is an option for Hill, then that tells us all we need to know about the quality of player we are losing. Not that destination is a perfect gage, but when players get picked up by talented top 5 programs (they aren't just adding to take numbers), you know they are good ones.

Or like everyone said ETN was going to Georgia even before he announced for the portal. Thats the literal definition of tampering, even if ETNs camp reached out. Can't talk to a player on another team before he officially declares.
