I think the offense does have an identity. SOS had the Fun and Gun. Mike Leach had the Air Raid. What Napier has, from what I've heard him say, can be called the Process Offense.

Would much rather have Tim Cramsey from Memphis. Has had great success wherever he has been. Marshall, Sam Houston, Montana, New Hampshire. No gimmicky offenses. He models offense and play calling around the talent he has. His offenses have been up top on scoring, yards, proficiency and built both running and passing teams. Does not try to put a square peg in a round hole. Has been OC and QB coach for many years. Would be a home run hire

I'm not saying that we should not look around for the best available. I just found this guy's offensive scheme to be interesting. There are many good OCs out there from which to choose.

The SOS offense: 31-3 at the start of the 4th quarter at Tallycrappy; Gators in the lead.

The vaunted SOS offense couldn't even kick a field goal in the 4th quarter, much less score a TD, to seal the win.

Why? Because Spurrier's defense sucked, and Bowden's didn't.

    Spurrier hired Stoops.

We win a Natty. Stoops put a nasty defense on the field.

We aren't winning because our defense sucks.

    Defense wins championships.

    But carry on trees.

Nice cherry picking there. People aren’t asking for a championship right now, but a winning season would be nice after 3 losing ones.

That is certainly subjective. 3 points per game is statistically insignificant. And would little to no effect on the win-loss record.

We can always get better in anything but it is not always a straight line progression. Human beings are not machines. There are going to be ups and downs.

Coaching involves so much more than your definition. Think Urban Meyer in 2010. He was on the sideline, but he wasn’t involved like he was before.

I would say a large part of coaching is decision making and being involved with your position group on game day. And to push that decision/responsibility off onto a special team player is negligent coaching.

    Steve

you have followed the thread, the definition i posted was to refute cocoD’s bluster in post 24. Yes, there is much more to coaching then sending players into a game. There is much to dissect from the EOG sequence. ST play was lacking in many aspects including philosophy, execution, and results. Game day sideline organization is process orientated (I apologize for that choice of wording) and critical, i’m willing to discuss aspects of proven organization but the collective experience and wisdom contained on SG precludes that necessity.

I wasnt taking a position or stating an opinion on our ST coaching this year. I pointed out that ST were not coached by players as some have asserted. With some randomly responding to intermediate posts this is devolving into chaos.

I think you were being a little flippant responding to the point that was raised. We had a player appointed that determined when our FG team needed to rush onto the field. Not a coach, but a player. What other staff in the nation does that?

An issue I have with this staff is how disorganized things appear. We shot ourselves in the foot so many times this year that I have PTSD. Napier needs to give up play calling, if only to allow him to step back and look at the bigger picture during games.

It wouldn't be a bad choice. Mullen knows how to coach offense just doesn't know how to run a program!
