What are you people talking about?! We just hired a new nutritionist for Lagway. Not sure why he would need a QB coach.

I personally do not like the two offensive line coaches but that is his call. I think that we may be back to two but I am not privy to what he is thinking. When he finishes I guess that we will know.

Different coaches do different things. It is difficult to know what he is doing until he is finished.

And there is no right or wrong until we see that it works or it does not.

College football is all about finding the best setup for your team.

Just because someone has coach in their title that doesn’t automatically qualify them as X and O capable or technique capable on the field for football instruction. “Coaching” weight and strength training is much different than coaching players the on the field.

I would think that a staff member with any type of coaching or supervisory experience would be better at coaching special teams than one of the players doing it.

I agree. We scored enough points to win most games. We did not keep the other teams from scoring more than us.

The defense needs to get better!

I must have heard that but I did not remember it. May he rest in peace.

    He was a great coach.

    Snark duly noted

There were no players coaching special teams.

Tell Napier that. He's the one who said a player sent the field goal team out of the field when he shouldn't have. Fact is I don't think Napier has ever revealed who has any accountability for special teams. He just says all those errors and goofs are correctable. By whom? It's none of our business.

Billy already had more resources than any coach in program history. Probably need a coach for each individual player.

Absolutely not, the new S&C coach has a TE coach background. He can coach the TE up over the summer and open up another spot for a 3rd OL coach.

According to Cambridge Dictionary: COACH meaning: 1. someone whose job is to teach people to improve at a sport, skill

There was no player in this capacity. A player leading others on to the field doesnt meet this definition.

    Happy New Year

I think a player leading them would be better than nobody leading them. Or maybe not. Maybe it's better to just let boyz be boyz.

Facts are Napier said a player was in charge of determining when the FG team was supposed to run out onto the field. If we had a special team’s coach, it would stand to reason that said coach should make the decision about when to run the FG team onto the field. Yet we had a player making that decision.

So it is your position that since a player can’t be the coach, that we spent the year without a special teams coach on the sidelines, which led to the cluster that happened at the end of that game. Not sure that makes things look any better.

No offense but I do not think that you can prove that. Not when adjusting for inflation.

Where did you get your information?

Yet most of the posters on this board obsessively whine about the play call for every offensive play that didn't work, and waah, waah, waah over no offensive coordinator. Napier was an offensive assistant and coordinator before he came to UF. Our offense wasn't perfect, but it scored plenty enough points to win. I think Nape did a great job with Mertz and the offense given how weak our offensive line was.

Any person capable of seeing the forest and not just a tree, has to recognize that we had a historically bad defense; maybe the worst ever in the last 60-70 years. I have been following the gators for over 50 years, and have never seen defenses like we have had for the last 4-5 years.

But I guess the whine about the offense crew doesn't understand how many more points an offense can score if the defense stops the other team, and gives the ball back to them.

We were bad but I think we will be better both offensively and defensively.

Many people have trouble being patient.

I hate losing but I always try to analyze why and see what happens during the whole season.

At least now we will have a potentially excellent backup QB. We could have won the last two games with a good QB. No offense to Max.

But a good defense would have set us up for a very good season.

So, I have high hopes for next year.

I don’t have a position other than to point out a player wasn’t in the position of coaching any of the special teams.

Are you asking for my thoughts on sideline organization during game days irrespective of coaching responsibilities during the week?

29 pts a game is not enough… down 3 from previous year. Multiple offensive stats moving in wrong direction. QB play was good, Oline not good so if that improves we are in better shape but an OC could not hurt the overall arc of the program and Billy’s focus and energy

Again … the whiny crew is whining NOT because the offense is BAD… but because the playcalling and flow and tempo is bad. This offense has no identity and no rythym. Some of that can be chalked up to mistakes and penalties, some to talent and blocking… but much of it was just really bad calls or lack of energy or poor clock management that should be better at Florida. I’m not sure what they’re thinking … idk if they get bogged down in analytics or what but Gator fans were not alone in whining over 29 pts a game… any objective person who watched this offense… and guys like ETN who left … had issues with the offense

“No identity” Exactly. Neither does the defense. It all comes from the top down
