Tyrese Samuel - Florida Gators Forward - ESPN Tyrese is averaging 15 points on 65% shooting and is adding 9 rebounds, almost 2 assists, 1.4 steals and a block per game in 12 games (half of which were against P6 opponents). He only has 1 single-digit scoring outing (had 9 pts) in 12 games and only 1 game with less than 6 rebounds. Against P6 teams: UVA: 10 pts 11 reb FSU: 15 pts 7 reb Pitt: 20 pts 10 reb Baylor: 18 pts 6 reb Wake: 12 pts 8 reb Mich: 21 pts 11 reb That's a 16 pts & 9 reb avg. If he brings even close to this against the SEC, he'll continue to be huge for us. He's also just 10 points from scoring his 1000th point. Hanging on the rim and missed FTs aside, he is also arguably our most consistent player this year and to me the most pleasant surprise on our team so far this year. So happy to have him on our team. Hope everyone else appreciates him and what he brings to this team as much as I do.
Tyrese has basketball savvy and he gets it done, down under. Quick, strong with good moves around the basket. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and delivers no matter who guards him. I like you know if he could just get a little better on free throws, his ceiling is high. Someone needs to tell him though, missing the front end of foul shots where you miss you don’t get the other, is another turnover for the Gators. Overall, I like what he brings to the Gators and is definitely a consistent force on the court. Tyrese I am glad you came to Florida, the SEC grind with great teams will showcase your skills, we are all pulling for you. Go big Gator!
You're right. I'm looking at the numbers and Pullin has been terrific. Clayton is also there in terms of productivity, but Pullin/Samuel are more efficient to date.
Tyrese and Zyon are both graduate transfers. I think that's an analytic right there that speaks volumes about the value of EXPERIENCE.
Clayton, in inches of height, provides the the most. Takes on bigs on offense and defense and keeps bringing the big plays to help us win. On fast breaks Walter can drive or even better, pull up and nail a three. Someone to count on to make the timely score to get us to the NCAA tournament. All three players fore-mentioned, are the type of warriors that we needed and all three are bringing it, all good. History is waiting for this group as we head into 2024! Hopefully with the depth we have, everyone stays healthy, as they keep bonding on court, we will be a dark horse in the tournaments. It’s hard waiting for each game knowing they can still get better and seeing it happen. Borrowing the phrase from Burger King, “Gators Rule!”.
True, but this team would survive without him. And yes, the freshmen bigs will continue to progress over the remainder of the season. Samuel is THE key piece to how we are winning. It really isn't close. And I know the running joke but this is a serious question, when are we going to get a Mr. Consonants sighting? This is concerning.
That is kind of concerning. It is probably best for him but to presume we don't need some real beef inside for the remainder of the season (if for no other reason than 5 fouls) is questioning what a freshman (or two) that was not considered a Blue-Blood type player to hold up. Lack of bulk to me will be the Achilles heel for this team on any given night.
I don’t believe that the team would do well without Pullin, unless Denzel Aberdeen could step into the starting point guard spot.
I like when he decides, about once per game, to just take the rebound and go coast-to-coast. He has surprisingly good handles and covers ground so quickly the defense doesn't have time to set up.
Samuel has been great and is way more skilled than I expected. He's got a great handle for a big man. My only beef is that he seems like he's rushing his free throws. Needs to breathe and slow down his shooting motion.
If you are trying to explain the huge rebounding edge this year thus far I'd be willing to say it's more of that natural ability of a couple of new players than teaching. I suspect the good fortunes of this team will follow Samuel's game pretty well.
Rebounding is mostly effort. I’ve played against teams that were much shorter, yet they were cardio monsters and they rebounded like crazy. Flying toward the rebound and being pesky goes a long way. There are some guys who you block out perfectly, time the jump right, and their annoying ass still somehow gets the rebound. lol. Man I hate those guys.
