An insurrection with 2 dozen blue haired lesbians wouldn't have made the local news.

Although an insurrection with a transgender woman made the national news.

This will give her a bit of a boost in NH, where Sununu is popular. Doubt if it is enough to win NH. Maybe a bit more momentum in SC where she gets a solid 2nd place as the media gives her buzz, but beyond that she won’t come anywhere close to Trump, unless somehow something arises with the legal issues that changes things and that seems doubtful.

This NYT podcast did a great piece on this. Basically Haley is a niche candidate, gets a lot of media buzz but probably can’t win. Kind of similar to John McCain in 2000.

It could make a difference since Haley is already number two behind Trump in a number of NH polls and Sununu is very popular. On the other hand Kim Reynolds endorsement of DeSantis moved the needle very little in Iowa even though she is also a very popular governor. Another factor that could help Haley is the nature of New Hampshire's primary which allows unaffiliated/independents to vote in the Republican primary. Still think Trump has a lock on the nomination considering that he is ahead by a significant margin in both Florida and South Carolina, in one of those states over an incumbent governor who was reelected by a large margin and in the other state a former 2-term governor.

New Hampshire quite frequently picks somebody other than the eventual nominee.

    John McCain 2000
    Hillary Clinton 2008
    Bernie Sanders 2020

I’ve heard the Nikki Haley campaign compared to the John McCain campaign of 2000. A lot of media attention, early success in New Hampshire, but ultimately both are/were niche candidates who did not reflect the makeup of the majority of the party.

Lord almighty, Nikki Haley was asked what caused the Civil War and couldn't even bring herself to mention slavery. "She said the war was about government interfering in people’s freedoms." Lost Cause garbage from the Neo-Dixiecrats.

Lest you think I was misrepresenting her answer, here's the transcript of what she said:

She was supposed to say State’s rights. And then when asked “state’s rights on what issue?”, respond with some vague answer like “the south has been in the penalty box too long, that was 160 years ago, why are we still trying to divide the country with these questions?”

Absolutely the answer one must give to remain viable in the primary for the nomination of a party whose current organizing principle is preservation of white supremacy. It's what the party stands for

Even as a country boy, smdh at her answer. Not slavery about as true as the holocaust, Sandy hook and the Moon Landing being staged.

Yep, that was fumbled badly. Would have been better for her to mention secession linked to slavery and be done with the question. Now she will be hearing the same question in various forms for the next little while. She will probably have a better crafted answer in the future.

Certainly dumb response, but no one that was going to vote for her in the primary is going to change to Trump because of her lack of historical knowledge.

Haley may be the second-craziest human being on the planet, Lindsey Graham being the first.

She's pretty quickly gone from someone I could tepidly cast my vote for against Biden, to someone I absolutely won't be voting for. The more she talks the worse she gets.
