The thing I like about Marion is OCs who are also WR coaches know how to get their WRs generate separation from DBs through great technique and good route concepts. If we do that, suddenly we will see our same 'ol Napier offense generate explosives....
“Marion is noted for implementing the GoGo Offense, which most notably will create imbalanced formations such as putting two running backs in the backfield on the same side of the QB. When he debuted his offense at Howard, the Bison pulled off a historic win over UNLV in 2017 despite being 45 point underdogs.” Florida Football: Who is UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion? *fwiw, I’m still very skeptical that Billy will actually hire a new play calling OC and give them full control. Several moves would need to be made for that to happen, and buddies are involved, so there’s that too.
Billy did do a deep dive into his offense and came to a different conclusion as to its effectiveness. First, it does not have running a slow blocking TE up the middle for short yardage against a stout DL. Second, it does not employ a slow developing double reverse deep pass play by a rookie QB vs a speed pass rush. Lastly, it does not utilize non-blocking OL players. Conclusion, it would not work, per Billy.
You guys promoting the hire of one year wonders playing in lesser conferences simply do not get it. A Korn that does not call plays for Liberty. A Marion in first year of play calling at UNLV. Kansas has gone to first Bowl game since 2008, beat Oklahoma for first time since 1997. KU turnaround nothing short of amazing coaching job. 3-18 under prior coach. Instant success and putting up points against quality Big 12 comp. Stomped UNLV. UF is not an OJT school for coaches in major P5 ball.
So UNLV hired the OC that beat them....If we hired every OC that beat us we would need a bigger boat!
Andy Kotelnicki Named Penn State’s Offensive Coordinator - Penn State Athletics Look at who Penn State hired as their new OC 4 weeks ago.
Jeff Grimes Named Kansas Football Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator Look at who KU hired as their new OC in last two weeks
I think you can all see a track record and difference between the two above hires and Korn and Marion. Experienced play callers with demonstrated record of success. Penn State and KU did not have to wait until after meaningless Bowl games to make and announce hires either
Desperate fans need something shiny. Give me a solid Oline and a decent defense that doesn't kill the offense.
So you're advocating for two guys that have already been hired elsewhere, one of whom was fired by Baylor? Or did you just not know the Kansas OC had left for PSU and this is a desperate backpedal? Either way, how about a realistic candidate if you think Korn and Marion both suck?
