Where would you say this season needs to end up to be "successful"? Where does it need to end up to be very "successful"? For me, 4th in the SEC, Top 4 in SEC tourney, higher than 7 seed and Sweet 16 would be a success. "Very" would be still 4th in SEC, Championship game in SEC tourney, don't really care as much about our seed and an Elite 8. I was just curious what others thought before the SEC schedule starts.
With consideration to recent years' outcomes, I'd say above .500 in the SEC & make the tourney = success. Avoid 1 & done in the SECt. Making the round of 32 in the NCAAs would be great.
10 conference wins. At least one NCAA win. I withhold my right to adjust this expectation after 5 more games
Getting FT percentage respectable. Kugel settling in and making shots. Freshman keep wowing. Pullin taking command like a boss. Samuel and Handlogten building off each other. Aberdeen progressimg into a great starting PG for next year. Continue dominating the boards. Richard hitting 40% from 3. Playing good defense all game, including against the 3. When all that happens, dominating the SEC tourney, 4 seed, final 4. Pinch me I'm awake. 13-5 SEC. 6 Seed. Sweet 16.
You're setting yourself up for unhappiness. You're saying that if we place 5th in a stacked SEC, we're a failure. If we're an 8-seed, we're a failure. If we lose in the round of 32, we're a failure, regardless of where we finish in the SEC. Those would be great, but I won't think of these young men as failures if we don't achieve each and every one of those things. Enjoy the ride.
Wins in exciting competitive games including all that we should and a couple as underdogs. Wins in SEC and move on in NCAA's. 12 seeds are fine.
Not at all. I mean more in a long term look back at the season. If we end up ranked 5th, an 8th seed and lose a close game in the round of 32, the season will not at all be a failure. Maybe I could have said what would be a good season and what would be a really good season. It is more to me about what people's expectations vs reality vs dreams. I am definitely along for the ride. have not enjoyed a Florida team this much in quite a few years (football or basketball). And not just because of wins/records. It is fun watching this team mature and it feels like they are.
Getting back to NCAA tourney. Making it to the second weekend moves the needle to very successful. It seems to me at this point that there is reason to have some hope that this is possible. I'm impressed so far how Golden has built this team. Hopefully, we catch some breaks with injuries and reach our potential.
The #1 goal of all Gator sports programs is to win the SEC. This year that's probably not going to happen, but I would at least like for us to be competitively in the hunt and finish in the Top 5, then get a decent seed in the tournament and make it to the Sweet 16.
After the dismal football season, it's a pretty basic goal. Show improvement evidenced by a - Winning sec record, competitive against everyone, make the ncaas. Already have the fsu beatdown on the resume, so a good start.
do we have a good win? Michigan is 6-6. We have a bad loss WF. We will know quickly after our first 5 SEC games. We will be underdogs in all of them.
ESPN's matchup predictor has the Gators favored to win four of those five. Note, I'm not suggesting the Gators will win four of five; I'm responding to your suggestion the Gators will be dogs in all of them. Opponent..........Prob of UF win Kentucky.............64.4 at Ole Miss..........53.5 Arkansas.............81.1 at Tennessee.......16.6 at Missouri..........57.2
We have the talent to finish in the Top 5 of the conference, and that's my expectation for this squad. And please survive the 1st weekend of the NCAA tournament. It's been a while. lol
