The disorganization and playcalling was definitely a factor, but the lack of being able to block at all was by far the biggest problem

Great read. A smart guy that enjoys the grind that comes with the job. Respect

Spacing of routes was a problem for us. We had too many receivers in the same zone. Not sure if the WRs were running poor routes of play design lacked ability to create openings?

Having less than two seconds for the route to develop before the quarterback was sacked or flushed from the pocket. May have something to do with what the routes looked like. Given some time it may look a little bit different.

Agree and I would add tackling. Basic fundamentals. Why?!

we had a lot of guys that don’t want to tackle or just aren’t built to tackle. That needs to change. It’s much easier to teach people to tackle that like it

With a mediocre functioning D last year, we would have won 2-4 games more than we did. Might have even won the KY game. I know he was good, but other teams shut down Ray Davis.
I'm hopeful the changes on D in the coaching staff, the experience gained by all our freshmen from last year, a new emphasis on tackling, some new players, and much more aggressive play in our secondary will change the D tremendously.
As Gator fans, we shouldn't write off the upcoming year because of SOS.

No the biggest problem was when we went up by 3 points or more...it triggered the dead turtle play calls that eventually collapsed an already bad defense and invited all 11 defenders to rush our "offensive" offensive line. We werent that bad early or playing from behind...it was the last two minutes of the first half (which we never seemed interested in offensively) and the entire second half that caused the stomach acid to brew up. Also the 0 for season trick plays which looked unpracticed and were catastrophic half the time we tried them...the other half were false starts which saved the day.

Yeah o line play was definitely a problem. But a good OC / play caller can also design an offense and call plays to limit the disaster that is the o line. You can run more 0-1 step drops and use the quick game. We did this now and then and succeeded at it. We continued to run long developing play action pass plays (Mertz turns his back only to turn around and get abused by the pass rush) - these plays should have stopped by mid season.
So while o line was weak we didn’t really try some things that may have helped them.

    No, he hasn't.

And until an offensive coaching position opens up, I can't imagine him announcing a new OC. We have to let someone go, which should be an OL coach. So maybe we won't hear anything for another month?

Heck, I would be happy with some quick slants across the middle with either our receivers or our nifty tight ends!!!

Technically there is one open spot right now post Batemen. Could hire an OC and move on from an offensive coach after an expiring contract in January though that would just delay a lb coach hiring.

I agree. But then the writing would be on the wall that we're firing someone on the offensive side of the ball.

But what the heck do I know? If it is Marion, it seems like we should announce sooner rather than later.

To be clear, I should have asked has he ever even hinted that he will be hiring a new oc and that he will be relinquishing play calling duties?
