Just read article on espn news that I felt was worth posting, but I’m having trouble creating a link to post. Sorry about that.

I posted this in another thread

They are assuming if they get out of the agreement:
    - Another Conference wants them.
    - Another Conference would not have an issue with them suing to get out of a freely signed agreement
    - Other teams would vote them in said conference and reduce their own payout
    - They'll be no consequences from the ACC if they lose the lawsuit
    - Nobody will figure out how stupid they are for giving up the easiest route into the 12 team playoff by not wanting to remain in the ACC

Round 1: They signed onto an agreement.
Round 2: The idea of the agreement blows up in their faces.
Round 3: Sue because they should not be held accountable for their stupidity.

Well, it IS the American Way.

It's not a withdraw fee. It's an ACC preservation, and destruction prevention fee.

Only argument I see that is valid is adding Cal, Stanford, and SMU and “diminishing the brand.”

But if F$U’s financial take is not reduced it won’t really have an impact on them. With a 12-team playoff the ACC Champ is guaranteed to be in.

If you were another conference, would you invite FSU to join considering the possibility that they might sue you in the future too if they find the contract unsatisfactory?

Write it into their admission contract that they can never bring up legal action for any reason. If F$U signs it……

I am not a lawyer, but does all this fall under contract law?

Also, does this go to Federal or State Court?

You know, if their conference commissioner hadn’t voted to leave the playoffs at four teams this year, none of this would be happening.

They could still be at the top of the ACC for years to come.

Based on the opinions of many on this board, UF is such a horrible team I wouldn’t be surprised if the SEC offered to drop UF and pick up FSU. The SEC league office would probably even offer to pay any ACC fees just to get their hands on the best team in the state. Just kidding! :D

Screw FSU! I hope nobody offers them a home if they sue to leave the ACC.

Its State law, and the original contract will generally spell out the jurisdiction.

The whole thing is dumb. Stay in the ACC and win the conference (no matter how crappy) and you’re one of the twelve teams in the playoffs. Makes no sense unless there is something else going on.

F$U filed in Tallahassee but I think the ACC wants it moved to NC due to League offices located in Charlotte.

The idea of them leaving is totally driven by money. With the two new mega conferences, SEC and Big Ten, it’s been predicted, the teams will receive roughly twice the amount of money that FSU would in the ACC. They want the cash.
