Yep, had Driskell had any kind of coaching he would've had a nice career at UF. But overcoming Muschamp's poor overall coaching and his lack of an offensive coordinator doomed him. He did well at La. Tech and I think was even in the league even this season when he was on the practice squad. Brissett is still in the league and signed a one year contract for 2023 and $10 million. Another QB talent squandered by Muschamp. Both on the same team at the same time and he couldn't get but one really good year out of them combined.

My philosophy has always been that it's OK to criticize players for their on-field failings -- this ain't intramurals, as someone once said, and these guys signed on knowing that they were expected to play football at a high level. No need to be a jerk about it, of course, but everyone lives in the real world, and the Gators did not go 5-7 this past year because everyone involved played top-notch football.

One thing I've never been on-board with is criticizing a player on a personal level, at least based on their on-field performance. Sporting events are not morality plays, and the players who win games are not, by definition, better human beings than the players who lost. So I'm never going to say "So and So isn't trying hard enough" or "So and So doesn't want it enough" or anything like that. Kimber wasn't a very good SEC cornerback -- that's a matter of talent (and perhaps injury), not character.

And that's a shame..no one would want their children trashed on public forums..wish people would put themselves in others positions before hitting the keyboard

If the talent isn't there, its not there, no issue with that at all, and wish the player luck at a level they can play and suceed at. When the effort isn't there and you phone it in George Pickens style, then they deserve to be railed on for it.

It's one thing to constructively be critical of their play..but I have seen posts here in GC calling players names, calling them trash or worse...that's what I am talking about

The tone of the discourse has plummeted as the frustration and general discontent goes through the roof. The personal insults being hurled at players, coaches, and even other posters seem to be at an all-time high these days. It is a shame that we can't even be reasonably respectful to one another. After all, we all want to win, and none of us can do a damn thing about effecting the outcome of even a single FB game or an HC's eventual success or failure. But the simmering rage thing goes on and it's not healthy and contributes nothing to the FB program or the experience of being a regular on this board.

Strawman....I didn't say it was okay to be disrespectful about judging a players performance. Its not disrespectful to deliver an honest evaluation of an adult's performance at something he/she is being paid to do.

These are supposedly adults and if they haven't already, they'll need to learn at some point in their lives that they will be judged on what they produce by others....some of whom will be beneficial to their career.

So what is wrong about criticizing their play on the field? I never read anyone trashing them as people. For one, the Mods wouldn’t tolerate it.

What Muschamp did to Driskel in that game was disgusting. He humiliated the kid.

Other than random posters making ad hominem attacks on players, I find the biggest critics are former players. They can be down right brutal on players regarding effort and missed assignments. I find a lot of our banter mostly tame on these forums.

It is hard on kids when you change the coverage scheme 3 years in a row. Toney to CR to now WH. All teaching a different way. Kids need consistency to learn, develop and grow. Too much thinking and not enough reacting when everything is new

You've obviously never had children or spent much time around them. An 18 year old is a kid, an immature kid. Just because the law was changed from 21 to 18 to make them adults, doesn't make them adults. They still aren't allowed to buy a firearm in Florida until they're 21. They still aren't allowed to buy tobacco products in Florida until they're 21. Does that sound like the state of Florida truly considers them adults and capable of making wise decisions?
