Mullen saved us from this. For that I am grateful but as I already mentioned, the way he quit on the program is unforgivable. He improved the program before burning it down to lower levels than he found it.

Love the guys we got....great talent. I'm disappointed that we couldn't sign a few more (esp the DLinemen), but if we can just get a few real portal studs too, we might finally have the ingredients that will eventually make a great cake.

This whole discussion misses the obvious point.
Because Mullen was marginally better than the seemingly bad coach we have now doesn’t mean he should have been retained. That would be settling for mediocrity. We will keep swinging until we hit the right pitch, even if it means some misses along the way. And I would humbly ask that people stop bringing Mullen’s self serving whiny garbage here, he’s gone for a reason. Many reasons actually.

    No.

Nothing like you supporting a quitter like Mullen who bails on the program.:eek:

Agree 100%. I never said we should have kept DM, my point is more directed at the guy in office now and how perhaps he isn’t the upgrade many say he is, because THAT is all I care about. My so-called “agenda” is to see the Gators win on Saturday on the gridiron, court, diamond or what have you and right now it isn’t happening. I don’t see Napier as an upgrade over Mullen, just a coach who is just as deficient but in different areas.

He would rather wake surf than recruit... says it all. And with the NIL in full swing there is NO WAY he could ever recruit with the dogged determinations needed to land great players in this new landscape of college football.

He's lazy and would only get his next coaching gig with one eye on the NFL. He's damaged goods.

How many freshman ever played for Mullen in any of his classes? How many of Mullen's recruits washed out? Mullen wanted a job while waiting for his "real job" and he used the Gators as his own personal stepping stone in which to do it.

    Billy may fail. Hope not.

But it will not be from putting time and effort into
    the program unlike Mullen.

Mullen had every opportunity to be successful. He made his choices. He quit. He got himself fired.

    Just stop.

Unfortunately, at this point he is not wrong. Hopefully, BN changes that next season. If we have another 5 game loss slide debacle next season BN is finished here, just like that turd Mullen.

    2 things:

How many non qualifiers has CBN taken compared to CDM

How many of CDM's players contributed compared to CBN's

Just one more point on Mullen and his recruiting.
His last sophomore class is about to go pro; and it’s entirely possible that not one who stayed gets drafted.
His recruiting was way worse than the numbers.

Is this the new argument for giving Napier an unearned fourth season before we see the third? Is it no longer “Dude, Napier’s going to bring in the Number 3 Class”? Is it now “Napier’s Number 15 Class is better than Mullen’s Number 15 Class”?

Why is it "unearned"? Billy told Gator Nation up FRONT this was going to be a long rebuild. Mullen left him absolutely nothing to work with on top of being handed a top 5 SOS. Mullen was absolutely atrocious at talent scouting, how many of his players not only contributed... but how many transferred to contenders?! Look at how many FR played and played VERY well, with a 1st time DC. Billy is also not afraid to fire people, and lots of smoke at least one of the OL coaches will not be renewed & that Korn will be hired as the OC. That's "unearned"? The 2024 schedule could possibly go down as one of the most challenging not only in UF history, but all of CFB. If he falls flat again and the recruiting doesn't stick then the knives can be justifiably be sharpened.

To be fair, this thread is a discussion about whether or not UF would be better off with Mullen as opposed to Napier—not how much time CBN should be given and why.
