It's time to plug the holes through the portal. As I went through each position group I had found most positions are in good shape. However, there are a few positions that need help. On O: QB, RB and TE are strong. We're in great shape with each of these positions. WR - I'd love to see us grab a WR1. Burke, Jean, Mizell, Wilson, Jackson and Dike (plus Hawkins and Abrams). -- This is an average SEC WR room. OT - Added Crenshaw-Dickson but will we add another? Must be a proven starter for us to take someone. OG - I'm not a fan of Richie but we have plenty of players that will be given a shot at beating him for that OG spot. We have enough players here. On D: The worst D in Gator history but where are the holes? Edge - imo, Princely was the biggest loss (but Mertz coming back was the biggest win). We have a room full of young edge players and added Brien Taylor. I think we look for an elite pass rusher. DT - we have Cam, Des, Lyons, Hill, Banks and added Slackman. Solid. LB - This is the weakest unit on the team and we need help. But we have a few bodies at this position and someone needs to take advantage of the opportunity. We need one more. CB - Loaded with young talent - Denson, Dijon, Gates, Ja'Keem Jackson and Moore ... plus a few vets (Marshall, Kimber, Hill). S - Castell and Thornton. Added Bridges. If Castell continues to develop we might be okay. Summary: We have a good roster but need a WR1, Edge, LB and S. I believe the key to 2024 is the off-season. Our S&C coach, nutritionist and team leaders need to push like they've never pushed before. We need a Tebow and Siler more than anything else.
One greenard, one Reese type run stopper/leader. OT. I'm optimistic about safety but that's relying on youth developing. Also, we need a few new forum members and some to portal out.
Holes to fill: OC OL Coach TE Coach Special Teams Coach DC defensive line coach LB Coach concerns me with how young and inexperienced our staff has become. We are a major P5 program with a Rajun Cajun coaching staff.
2 OTs 2 LB 1 safety 1 WR Anyone know how many slots we have available toward the 85 limit? I'm guessing we only add another 2-3 max, esp with Mincey still in play.
2 OTs (1 to start and 1 to backup) 2 DTs (1 to start and 1 to backup) 1 DE to start 1 LB to start 1 Safety to start 1 WR to start
Maybe. He is a good WR but can he take the double and still be productive? Most of his receptions were underneath while Ricky took the double team deep. When Tre got doubled, they took him out of the game. Fans complained that he "disappeared" for chunks of the game ... well, he was being doubled and wasn't open. Losing Ricky is significant. We need a WR1.
Someone said he thought we were at 84 now. There are probably known or probable upcoming exits still, and, there are always more after the spring game depth chart is clearer.
In limited snaps I really like Denson, maybe I was just drawn to him for some reason, but he came up in run support and made the tackle. I understand he may have been out of position or having some other issues I'm not aware of, but he jumped off the screen to me tackling guys solo.
He's slot WR1. He still needs an add'l WR that can stretch secondaries (like Pearsall) or defenses are going to be all over him like flies on you know what.
Surgery. Rehab. 2nd surgery. Rehab. Probably competing in Spring. Comes in 3rd. Transfers. Kessler (PWO) qb3. But maybe Miller is qb2 after spring and Lagway is qb3 even though wink wink he's really qb2 in fall. Miller transfers anyway since he wants to start.
