Bateman to A&M

Agreed…..It’s unfortunate that BN is having a tough time recently- and some it can be pointed to the hires he on D.

 

Can you list the "top quality" recruits that we have at that position? All SEC? 2nd Team All SEC? Were any of the recruits we lost yesterday part of that group that he was responsible for? Maybe they knew ahead of time.

Well we all saw the defense last year and the year before and the year before and the year before and after screaming about the need for change on the D side of the ball we get the changes and we are still screaming.

 

Wow. I thought developing a semi- competent defense was in general
much easier than developing a semi competent offense.

Only the Gators could go sideways to the conventional wisdom.

 

True, but you want a HC and program that has coaches leaving for bigger roles. It’s sucks, but it’s a good thing IMO. If they aren’t moving up, there usually is a reason.

 

Here is what we do know. EG, a committed longtime Gator great whose son just signed with us is saying that nobody called his son about the departure. You can’t stop (or blame) Bateman for taking a DC position, but the issue is that if you build a program on culture and trust, how do you not reach out to players/recruits as soon as possible to settle their concerns? And you do this IMMEDIATELY upon learning of him leaving.

On top of that he talks about broader issues with the program (along with other Gator players like Shane). Maybe EG did raise those issues in private but got ignored. Not saying this kind of stuff should never happen (people react emotionally and inappropriately) or is a full, true story, but it reminds me of our personal fouls at critical points in games. At some point the “culture” claiming to be build is belied by behavior/results.

We need BN to bear down and right this ship - now or never.

Our D has been horrible for years, for sure, and this year linebackers were awful. Was Bateman the problem? I dunno, but don't care, because I don't see how his replacement could do worse. As for him leaving to take a DC job at an SEC school, you can't blame him for that.

But... it sounds like he blindsided Napier with this, unless Billy's army is just collecting pay checks. Whatever happened, Napier needs to get on this right away and clear it up.

And in the post before your speculation we see that the offer was made this morning and A&M leaked the hire. Looks like Napier found out at about the same time as EG. Kind of hard to tell EG or his son and the other players about something when you find out about it at the same time and same way that EG did. Wouldn't you agree??

 

Are there any names being tossed around as a replacement?

 

I agree, he should have simply called Napier instead of hanging his dirty laundry out in public like that. Like we need more negative news?

Why take that to twitter?

 

It got bad "coincidentally" when Grantham took us from a 4-3 base defense to a 3-4 base defense... still trying to fix that mistake. 5-2 would be nice...

 

So Texas A&M has now hired our DL coach and made our LB coach who was passed over as DC, their DC? One thing is for sure, they will have us scouted well for next season.
