This is silly. The reason why they weren't selected is because Jordan Travis wasn't there. If Tim wasn't on the team after the regular season in 2008, do you think Florida would have been selected with a little-experienced John Brantley? But the myth never dies...
We actually played one of the hardest schedules that year...not one of the easiest. We would have still got in...
They can posture all they want but until they come up with a big enough number $$$$$ to satisfy the ACC, they are not going anywhere.
We did have a tough SOS, but Texas' SOS was even tougher, and they had a healthy Colt McCoy. Tebow was the difference. Texas would have jumped us if Tim was out, and probably Michigan as well.
Not likely, the polls didn't penalize SWAC for losing Travis, the playoff committee did (we didn't have that in '06 or '08). But beyond that, SWAC still could have made a difference by looking better against FLORIDA and against Louisville. It wasn't *just* about losing Travis, it was about losing Travis *and* showing that you were a significantly worse football team in doing so. Go GATORS! ,WESGATORS
If they had a way out of the grant of rights deal they would have already exercised it. 120 million exit fee plus what ever the cost to get out of the GOR media deal. FSU gets 40 million a year and there are 13 yrs left on the GOR = 520 million 520+120=640 million FSU will consider leaving the ACC without 'radical change' to revenue model, school's president says According to this article if a deal can't be made, all TV money fsu would get from a new conference would have to be paid to the ACC.
Yeah, I knew that they had to give their TV money to the ACC. I know they were/are hoping enough conference members would align with them to end the Grant of Rights, but I don't see how that would benefit Duke, Wake, Va. Tech, Virginia, Pitt, Syracuse, Wake, etc.? It would be suicidal of them to do so.
Wait- you are talking about 2008?? You think they would have matched up Oklahoma vs Texas in a rematch in the BCS title game if Tebow had gotten hurt? IMO that's unlikely. First- they don't like rematches if they can help it. Next- the SEC had won the 2 last NCs- both in dominating fashion. Plus we had a killer schedule that year and had just beaten an undefeated BAma. I don't think the 1 loss SEC champ gets excluded in that scenario.
The best team of the leftover conferences will be guaranteed a playoff bid, it all makes sense, they are heading to the SUN BELT.
I dont understand why they are whining that much. Their season was over when Travis got hurt. They act like they did not struggle badly against UF and Lville. There were 6 teams worthy of a top 4 spot this year. FSU in its current state is the worst of the 6. They have a really good team and had a great season, and they are a playoff caliber team... but they looked pretty bad in their last 2 games, which is what kept them out. Nobody wanted to watch them without Travis.
FSU’s academics aren’t good enough for how the B10 sees itself. They’d much rather have UF athletics and academics. They might bend for the Nolies but it is going to cost the Semis something if they do. “Wes Chandler was Percy Harvin before Percy Harvin was born.”
Or now Cal, Stanford and SMU. FSU got outmaneuvered big-time. The ACC commish who somehow ($) convinced NCST to back the additions after that school originally aligned with FSU as one of the football schools that wanted to explore a break away conference. Now the schools that never wanted the ACC to dissolve absolutely own FSU for the next 13 years unless ESPN suddenly grows charitable and gives the ACC more money.
Well they definitely did not make the cut as AAU in the last go around while USF and UM did. Maybe the Big 10 will take those two schools since they seem to think that Athletics is somehow associated with academic endeavors.
This. FSU would have to pay an initial exit fee of $120 million, and then pay around another $500 million in future media fees to the ACC. Why would the SEC or BIG want to wade into this mess given that they have already expanded significantly? The Holes won't be able to pay this, so their only hope is to somehow get out of the agreement with the ACC in court. That seems like an uphill fight to me. What's their argument? We chickened out of the SEC, joined the ACC instead, and it has turned out to be a bad deal? Most likely, the ACC will agree to give the Holes, Clemson, etc. a bigger share of the pie to keep them around. And FSU will still get paid a lot less than the SEC and BIG.
I hope I can sleep tonight worrying about this as much as I have. The last few weeks with this and fsu being left out of the playoffs are tough to take.
