If not for 'The Alliance,' college football's muddled playoff picture would be much clearer this year (yahoo.com) TL;DR: The ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 colluded to form a voting bloc to oppose SEC domination and any changes which might favor the SEC. That voting bloc delayed the CFP expansion by exactly 1 year because the ADs and commissioners of those leagues thought an expanded playoff would help SEC dominance. If the playoff expands a year earlier (this year) than FSU is definitely in. But because of the efforts of their own AD and commissioner to screw over the SEC, they get to sit at home and watch. So if FSU fans want anyone to blame for not being in the playoff, they can look at their own AD and Commissioner. So if any FSU fans want to complain about being left out, politely remind them that this could have been avoided if their AD and conference wasn't trying to act like a salty punk towards the SEC. "Karma is a bitch only if you are"
If they want to look farther back they will find Bobby Bowden and his fear of joining the SEC to blame.
I vaguely remember The Alliance, and thought it mostly a power move to combat UT and OU’s move to the SEC. How soon the likes of F$U forgets, though typical of their short memory span.
100%. To say they stayed in the ACC to improve their basketball program was such a farce. Now with the CFP, it’s a harder road to the NC, which they just found out. 13-0 in the SEC would be automatic. To Hell with that program….
The other side of it is that they really don't have any support within the ACC. Most of the other schools hate them for how they have so publicly stated their desire to leave the conference, even to the point of listing the reasons. They have burned bridges within their own conference and also made themselves far less attractive to the SEC and B1G. Even if they do get out of the ACC, where will they go?
They can't really think things would have been different had they been in another conference, do they?
Here’s what you say to FSU fans: “If the CFP had 12 teams, would FSU be in and would you be upset?” “Why, of course they would be in and I wouldn’t be upset.” “Do you know why the playoffs only have four teams this year and not 12 like there will be next year?” Then, tell them the ACC Commissioner voted to keep it at four teams. Also, tell them his vote is what kept FSU out of the playoffs this year and see what they say.
They should just stay in the conference. Easy road to the 12 team playoff. They are doing all this to get more money from the ACC.
They pissed off NCST so bad that they turned around and screwed them by voting to allow the ACC to add a bunch of crummy teams from out West, thus diluting FSU's vote even further.
Apparently they've forgotten all the "why did the chicken cross that road" jokes directed at them from back in the day too!
I just saw this item a few minutes ago. It is dated today Dec. 21 at 11:00 AM If the Noles cannot shake any more money out of the ACC, where can they go to? Will the SEC take them in? Report: Florida State to discuss future of athletics, affiliation with ACC at board meeting
The absolute only way FSU could get an invite to the SEC would be if they could put together a package deal to include Notre Dame. I would say that same about the BIG, but the BIG would probably be more amenable to taking FSU and a less desirable Southern team just to get a foothold in the South.
I still can’t get over the male homecoming queen, the “male” baton twirler at the Swindle. I loathe them and we haven’t even talked about all of the cheating and dirty play yet
