From the guy who earlier stated that Russia had lost more troops, back in the fall, that it had ever placed in theatre to that point.

Kansas man pleads guilty to smuggling U.S. avionics hardware to Russia in violation of U.S. sanctions. Probably shouldn't trust a company named "KanRus" headed by someone named Buyanovsky. His high-tech system for getting things past the U.S. government dragnet? Removing the "FSB" sticker from the equipment when he sends it in for repair.

That was from a poorly written article that did not differentiate between injured and killed casualties. And no, it did not exceed the number of Russians in Ukraine at that time. Your information was also wrong. At least I use credible sources, and know better than to quote any disgruntled loser on Twitter / X with a pro-Russian agenda (or a propaganda source within the Kremlin).

China and Russia continue to celebrate the cowardly dimwits of Congress refusing to continue military aid to Ukraine as well as the inability of the West to isolate Russia. Both countries apparently believe this bodes well for future invasions.

Xi Jinping and Russia's PM took a victory lap over the US's failure to economically isolate Russia since its invasion of Ukraine

Thought of this point today. I am 80% of the way through Terence Robertson's excellent history of the 1956 Suez Crisis. One point that keeps hitting me over the head is that I failed to appreciate is that it happened in parallel to the Soviet crushing of Hungarian resistance, back when the Magyars cared about freedom.

Another, and the reason for the post, is that France and Britain were driven into unwise military adventurism against all logic because the French were obsessed with holding Algeria, and thought deposing Nasser was the key, and the Brits just could not stand the loss of Empire prestige and Nasser thumbing them in the eye, even though it was pretty much symbolic and transit rights were guaranteed. It was too much to bear. And the Israelis would not resist launching a quick attack on an Arab army.

    Interesting.

Sounds like they're celebrating the "isolation," not the failure to isolate. eg-- If Russia weren't isolated...China would have to pay higher prices for petro, and Russia would have to compete with other countries for China's business.

Yeah - and Ike said, uh, nope. He didn't care about their dying colonial interests, he was more interested in cold-war alignment and he knew that continued Western colonialism played right into Soviet hands. Practically the death knell for the two as global powers.

You are well read, not surprisingly.

US foreign policy of the time sounds so odd from a 2023 lens. Much to admire.

Just quoted Dag in another thread. Was a very superficial fan previously based on a few tours and tangential articles. Now I really want to read up. Seems a prophetic voice.

Ha. In relation to many the posters on this thread (looking right at you, Tampa) - I'm barely treading water. It helps that I just refreshed my memory of all this through that Martyrmade podcast I wrote of before.

Those were definitely different times, but much of the over arching concepts still hold true today. "Communism" has just been replaced by a more general "Authoritarianism"

Ukraine needs 200,000 artillery shells a month to have a chance to defeat Russia. If the West does not step up production in a major way, and the West continues to supply Ukraine at these rates, the West will run out within a year. Biden needs to step up his game and bring more production on-line. Why he has not done so by now is a mystery.

I have a strong suspicion that you and Exiled are far better versed on 20th century foreign affairs than those rubes that cloth themselves with the Maga cape.
It's incredibly disconcerting that people like that have disproprionate influence, especially in the House, due to the almost equal split of representatives.
It's mind numbing just how stupid they are and that they are willing to literally undo U.S. and Western post WW2 policies.

Should Trump succeed in his re-election bid, and these morons continue to track in the direction of making Trump an American Emperor, the results will not only be catastrophic but ruinous to the entire world order. I liken it to the fall of the Roman empire and the unset of the dark ages.

Lol! Russia stuck in its wee sliver of Ukraine for nigh on 2 years, and you're running smack about the toothless old bear making a play for what...another sliver--of Finland?

    Hahahaha.... good one!

"American emperor", "Roman empire".... so much hyperbolic bullshit conjecture. Why can't y'all even attempt to couch your points in what is, rather than imagine so much foolishness about how horrible the world might get, if X plays out?

    Geez...

NB: when Trump was POTUS, Russia did NOT invade Ukraine, our bases weren't under constant attack, Hanas didn't invade Israel...

After Biden became POTUS, he shat the bed pulling us out of Afghanistan, Russia invaded Ukraine, Hamas attacked Israel, who has in turn attacked back, our bases have been and continue to be attacked in Syria and Iraq while we hold our dicks and piss ourselves over @$%#@n Ukraine, and our southern border has turned into the world's whore hole, flooding illegals in our country at a clip of 100,000 per week, with fentanyl, drugs, sex slaves, kids for sex, terrorists, gangstas, and God only knows what the hell else....

    THAT is what IS.

....and you parrot hollow shit about what might happen IF Trump gets re-elected--as if we hadnt already seen what happens when he's POTUS.

    Axns > words.
    Trump > Biden.

Biden says all kinds of idiotic shit. I judge him by his results. Ditto Trump.

I say "yall" bc you're saying the same shit every body else around here says.

Which flies in the face of what has actually happened under their respective watches.

I see you have crowned yourself the "A Priori" genuis and end all statement giver relating to topics on this board.
Congratulations, but I do find it interesting you use the words "everybody else around here",..........
that, of itself, speaks volumes about you, in my book.
