I’m ok with the hire. I think it’s pretty obvious Billy is trying to find younger coaches that are the future. Body of work isn’t big but he has good experience and the coaching profession speaks highly of him.

Billy’s not into splash big name hires. He’s into young guys that can connect with the kids and can teach football. No recruiting experience is no good, but to have Tulane's level of talent produce like that sounds promising.

Lack of recruiting experience does not bother me. The whole landscape of recruiting has changed and I feel like its controlled by the $$$ now. We desperately need a DL coach who can beef up the line. We have bee so soft the last few years.

For all the excuses about Mullen leaving Napier no talent. Here are the last three recruiting class rankings on 247 for each coach:
    Mullen: #9, #9, #12
    Napier: #18, #13, #16(so far)
I think he's run out of excuses.

Good point about recruiting. Still have to win moms and connect with kids but the dynamic is changing. Once most players have professional agents it'll really change.

That was the common feeling post Mullen but I doubt anyone thought we were going down to absolute bare metal and staring at 3 seasons without a bowl (likely). At this stage we should have a few aspects of an improving team we can hang our hat on and I see a grand total of zero. I wont list the deficits since they are well understood here but you have to have at least a positive direction somewhere in the program and hoping for a high school kid to fix things two years from now isnt cutting it. We can all be fans but the on field product is just awful and recruiting is paying a price for it.

Posting this without context about Mullen's classes makes you look uninformed.

A lot of those guys didn’t qualify or make it past the summer, so the rankings are inflated.

We all know the context. If we’re being somewhat objective, of course. We all know many of those quality recruits under DM didn’t actually either (1) make it to campus because of not qualifying, or (2) weren’t here for long due to transfer, etc.
Again, if we’re trying to be somewhat objective in our critique.

Let's say that this is 100% true and that Mullen is the only guy who ever signed guys who didn't qualify....it would bring his rankings down to Napier's level by the numbers.
I don't see a big argument for Napier bringing in better talent.
This was supposed to be his saving grace, a top 5 class that would make a difference. It's kind of underwhelming after 2 years of waiting for it.

The context is right now we should have Mullen RS Jr & Sr players next year that are the backbone of the team and we don't. That is because Mullen's recruiting was lackluster. At the same time, BN's recruiting thus far is 2 losing seasons. Until BN recruits actually win more than they lose, they are just as bad as Mullen.
