All indications are that brain activity ceases when one dies. There is absolutely nothing to indicate otherwise.

 

I’m sorry but Jesus was most likely just a charismatic cult leader with a fledgling following. Nothing more. Everything we know about the observable world suggests that claims be made and that others made about him were fictitious.

I feel similarly about Joseph Smith. He was a charlatan. He didn’t speak to any angels.

 

And millions of years ago there was "nothing to indicate" that a speck could contain the force of the future universe within itself, and it would explode.

To an ant there is "nothing to indicate" that the internet exists.

We know so little. Part of spiritual faith comes when you finally accept that fact.

 

"Fledgeling following"?
It is estimated that 106 Billion people have lived on earth for however long human history is. And just in the last 2K years 14 Billion have claimed to be followers of Christ with Billions more believing in the Abraham God that Jesus claims to be in unison with.

To call that following "fledgeling" is really a stretch. There has never been a bigger following in the history of the universe.

 

Way to miss the whole point! Also, if Nietzsche has been owned in the afterlife by God's punishment, its not convincing anyone other than him, so God is still dead to the living.

 

How many followers did Christ have when he was alive? TWELVE! It was a damn cult man! Just because a huge swatch of humanity has fallen for it WAY after the fact doesn’t change that. Hell just look at Scientology or Mormonism. Same thing except they are still comparatively brand new.

How could 14 billion people be wrong!!?

You said he “believes in God” now which is to suggest his conciousness persists despite his being dead.

Much bigger things could certainly exist and at the same time be completely perplexing or unbelievable to you.

Also the "12" was just his inner circle and that number had very specific symbolic meaning in the Jewish world.

Jesus had thousands of followers almost overnight. The Romans and "religious" establishment didnt want Him dead because of 12 dudes hanging out in a bar on the east side of Jerusalem. They sought His death because he was leading a revolution of thousands upon thousands.

To call it fledgeling is simply ignoring any fact and certainly shows a lack of knowledge on the subject.

Doesn't matter. Whether a religious person's consciousness simply dies and is met with nothingness, or a atheist is tortured in hell, does nothing to convince anyone alive of anything or reduce/create/sustain belief. Even the people that believe dont believe the same thing, so the authority of religion is in question even among the religious.

 

Link to a Bible verse that confirms Jesus had “thousands of followers” during his lifetime? And no, giving 5,000 hungry people some food doesn’t count.

Look, plenty of cults have drawn the ire of local authorities. Jonestown, Branch Davidians etc. They are fledgling. He was put to death because he claimed to be god and the Vast majority of people, including those in authority thought he was a conman. His execution for that crime was repackaged by his followers as a “sacrifice” and he was martyred. Add a few thousand years and generations of people looking for answers when they simply don’t exist and here we are.

 

Why did you put “owning” in quotes? What assumption did I make? You’re the one who said he’s believed in god since he died, not me.

you seemed to have entirely missed my pt. Intelligent design still leaves an infinite # of possible explanations. Hell, it leaves an infinite # of explanations that don't include any god. Creationism by a superior being also leaves an infinite # of explanations & yet is a subset of a larger infinite set of explanations. In that light (or any other) the bible seems a crappy candidate to be taken seriously in this discussion.

I think you got too caught up in the metaphor. When a problem is well-formulated, it is typically quite easy to demonstrate when a solution is wrong whether one knows the actual solution or not. In others words: "I don't know the solution, but I can show yours is wrong". That was the pt I was making. In fact, the "solution" to the problem in question was pretty famous & much cited. I demonstrated 30 years later that it was wrong.

 

Like I said before you completely missed the point. 'God is dead' has no bearing on his actual existence. As an organizing principle for society, religion/God,etc. its gone and not coming back, we are just living in the shadows of its past as such. Nietzsche meeting God in death doesnt convince anyone other than him because we dont have a live feed.
