'Excuses' as in what the guy alleges ain't true; he's making shit up b/c he's pissed = no problem that needs to be fixed. An excuse for this negative perspective, rather than the harsh reality that what he says, might just be dead on balls accurate--and would align with a lot of what we saw on the grid iron.
There's anecdotal evidence to support this. Prior to the NFL draft, a website I browse cited several (not named) NFL teams' sources who predicted that O'Cyrus Torrence would fall in the draft partly because his body composition was "terrible." TIFWIW.
I’m not sure about the S&C results as it pertains to our player’s development, but one thing I feel is lacking in that department is the motivation piece. S&C should be turning our guys into psychos on Saturdays and getting them jacked and amped to play. I just notice a trend of flatness and lack of “fire in the belly.” Probably wrong, but could be wrong…but could be right. Idk.
MacDonald Ferguson was a weight room freak, as was Kirk Robinson, a few years earlier. Yes, neither saw the field much. But the bottom line is, right now, our lines are NOT up to snuff physically. In addition, we are weak at LB and DB. This is on Mark Hocke. No other way to slice it. Big Dez. 430 plus pounds for 2 years. Mark Hocke. End of story.
As someone who asked the Georgia Strength and conditioning coordinator (from UCF by the way) point blank "would you want to come back to Florida and do it at UF" and was told "yes...absolutely" and the next question was did Napier ever call and ask which was answered with a "no...he never called". Napier hired someone he was familiar with instead of robbing an big time asset from our rival... Before you ask it was a close circle of very tight friends about 10 people... I was pretty disgusted after but figured Billy must have his guy.
Several players who’ve left have cited SC & development as one of the reasons…. 4th quarter and missed tackles was on field evidence … soooo… not sure what about this is a butt hurt employee lol. It’s pretty apparent it’s a joke. We have plenty of evidence to show it’s a joke… but your only evidence to the contrary is “welp, I don’t believe him”.
I am not shocked. Mark Hocke has done nothing to inspire hope in any of us regarding S and C. A terrible hire. Just awful.
Sorry, not buying it without more information. Hocke has been around some big name colleges. Bama, UGA, FSU, A&M. You mean to tell me he didn't pick up things prior to or learn while he was there? This isn't that hard. BN, if nothing, analyzes everything. He doesn't seem to have any difficulty making changes. I think a lot comes down to player leadership. They're the ones really pushing each other. or not. Plus, we're so young, a lot of our guys only had a few months of conditioning to begin with.
I like Napier. A LOT. I desperately want him to make it. He was THE coach I wanted 2 years ago. That being said, in 2 years, I cannot think of one game(McNeese State type teams don't count) where we "DOMINATED" the other team physically. We have been bullied and pushed around for 2 years. Big Dez, although he does not get bullied, is north of 430 lbs, 2 years under Hocke later. Thus, he is hardly on the field. Mark Hocke has GOT to go.
Care to be a little more specific? I'll give you one. USCe 2022. UF gained 374 yards rushing and gave up 44 yards rushing.
You are right. We blasted them, my bad, albeit for one half. and Big Dez tore them up. Should have stomped all over that ah Rattler instead of getting tackled.
I will only say that, fool me once then shame on you. Fool me twice then shame on me. I doubt that the brain trust is letting Napier just hire best buds and let them crap all over their program like Mullen just did. And if it IS correct, then this will take care of itself pretty soon. A LOT of folks who are on the inside will be removed.
In my opinion what we are seeing is a result of playing true freshman, redshirt freshman and sophomores against juniors, seniors, and 5th year Covid students. They are just not ready yet for prime time, but due to talent shortages we are forced into playing them now. If this still an issue a year or two from now then I will all in with the he’s got to go narrative.
We can need more better players and more better S&C. Not exclusive. As for the Meyer mention, Tebow and Siler and competition were the S&C coaches. If you weren't in the room getting crazy you were a p*ssy. May not be the best environment but created monsters on the field. They treated the other teams like p*ssies.
Prior to that it was guys like Donnie Young who would get in your face in the weight room. Need work out warrior dogs like that on the team.
