On this mornings podcast— A staffer on the strength and conditioning staff has left to work for Ohio State, says Fla’s Strength and conditioning program is the worst he has ever seen and is a joke. Said Billy won’t fire the head SC coach due to his buddy relationship. Sounds like the same program under coach Mac—— If true—unbelievable and a very bad sign——
Exactly . Some people think Billy seriously believes his supposed friendship is more important than team success and *his* ultimate success at Florida? Really !?!
Except, the on-the-field results show more fire than smoke. I'm not an Olympic weight lifting champion but I can tell when my 165lb 20 yr old son can tackle better than many of our defenders and hold his own against guys 100lbs heavier. Conditioning is fine, we still were holding our own late in the game but the S part of Strength and Conditioning needs to be 100% changed. We are weak, even against Jacksonville St. UAB's S&C program is better. This goes on both sides of the LOS too. Way too many times I saw fat-assed offensive linemen not even keeping up with 330 lb DTs and flat out couldn't stop a decent edge rusher. The hammer on the nail was against FSU when our offensive lineman was bulldozed into our QB not a yard, but 5 yards. And the defender was at least 50 lbs lighter.
Edit to clarify: no evidence that S & C programs take a DT with 8 pressures and 2 sacks to a DT with 15 pressures and 5 sacks. So S & C may be a scapegoat. Although they certainly can injure or predispose to injuries.
Normally I would agree, but my eyes tell me that this disgruntled employee might be onto something. I keep thinking of our offensive linemen getting thrown into our own quarterback.
It has happened before. He's not immune to human nature. Billy needs to not have any friends that are involved with football.
One of UF's most S&C DL guys was MacDonald Ferguson. A weight room All Amer. Problem was he was not good at DT. One of the greatest DTs of all time looked fat, too short (6-2), sloppy and ill equipped....Warren Sapp. S&C is one ingredient to make good better or very good to great. But it is not the causation of great players.
Other teams WR have looked like our LB’s for a long time. Strength comes into play in everything as an enhancement. Strength coach spends a ton of time with the team and helps to instill values and discipline. Hopefully this is not a rerun of a movie we have seen. And Warren Sap was very strong with a fast first steps and a motor. Not a good example. I had hopes Dez would slim down and play like him.
That's something I think is different. We have injured players... some playing out of position like Duggers_dad said.
I hear you. On paper the lineup that Napier assembled through the transfer portal and high school recruiting looked great. Kiyaunta Goodwin left to take care of his mom, Micah Mazzcua was injured early in the year, Kingsley Eguakun battled injuries all year. Players who should be playing guard were playing tackle, and players accustomed to playing right side were playing left side and vice versa. Regardless, the way some of our players were pancaked or thrown into other players was rather embarrassing. It looked like a combination of a lack of strength, lack of technique, and perhaps confusion with the blocking scheme. All that to say, I think a good strength and conditioning program could help in the trenches.
Pretty quick with the excuses there gents. BTW, didn't we recently build a top shelf indoor facility to address these issues? What's the excuse other than....personnel?
What excuses are you talking about? I believe Napier has a qualified Strength and Conditioning coach... Some dude, former employee, was fired and we're supposed to believe him? I'm not the one making excuses. If I were making "excuses" I would say that he got fired unjustly. But I don't believe him.
