Ole Miss beat California by 10 last night. I watched most of the game and will make a couple of observations; 1. 7’5” Center is thin but athletic, blocks anything near the rim. 2. very good pg 3. Starting three 2 guards and wings are muscular and drilled three after three. 4. backup center is Cisse from Oklahoma St. who came hear two years ago, defensive player of the year in the SW conference. another seven footer. They will get John Bol next year. 5. They are waiting on another 6’5” transfer to get eligibility anytime. 6. Good Coach on the sideline who gets the most out of a team. 7. They have three easy games coming up before the conference grind starts. They will win over twenty games. Beard’s first year, the SEC is going to be surprised by the grit this team has. A reflection of the coach. 8. Of course we have to go to Oxford early in the season, ugggh! Side note: Kentucky came alive last night and beat North Carolina! Alabama took Creighton to the final shot at The Blue Jays house sold out arena. Sears the Alabama pg was heating everything, 34 pts, missed a heave three pointer, at the buzzer, that almost went in. They looked pretty good. Our SEC schedule is a grind for our current team, first up Kentucky, Ole Miss and Arkansas. Lordy……
From last to first...though it's still very early. Amazing what the right coach can do for a program. Chris Beard Head coaching record Overall 245–98 (.714) Tournaments 10–4 (.714) (NCAA Division I) 2–1 (NCAA Division II)
Can only be impressed by Ole Miss. Couple of good games in SEC out of conference match-up. Ky beat UNC in a thriller and Bama fell to Creighton in a tight contest.
Some under-achieving looking results in SEC last night. Georgia struggled with High Point. Vandy loses by over 20 to Texas Tech. USCe wins by 4 at home to Charleston Southern who is 0-5 on the road (and #342 KenPom) Arkansas by 3 over Lipscomb Alabama and LSU lose albeit really tough games Most of those games would cause us to think "we're going to struggle when SEC starts." So: it's not just us.
They've played a pretty weak schedule to date and haven't exactly dominated that competition. I am guessing that was by design with a new coach, but despite being 10-0 they are down in the 90's on KenPom.
4-5 Michigan State walloped 9-0 Baylor yesterday. They were up by 29 with 4 minutes left. Final 88-64. MSU shot 63% and 67%feom 3, hot from the start.
Happy Sunday folks! Love the posts and comments in this thread! FYI: I brought forward a thread from last season so we'd have one to discuss this kind of stuff in for the entire season, in case it's of interest - have at it: SEC Scoreboard - latest on SEC games incl. scores | Page 20 | Swamp Gas Forums THANKS!
Wait till they blow the next three cream puffs, then they get Tennessee. If they beat the VOLS, they will be 14-0 and zooming up the polls. The SEC isn’t kind to young coaches but Beard is a tough coach that knows what it takes. They will get in the NCAA tournament, no telling how far they will go! Maybe he and Barnes at Tennessee will get into a fight? Mississippi is definitely making noise. You wonder how did he get all the new transfers to go where they haven’t won anything in a lifetime.
They beat an 0-10 Detroit Mercy team by 1 point at home. They've had a bunch of cream puffs on the schedule and haven't blown any of them out. That's not to say they aren't going to be a problem for many teams in conference play, Beard is a great coach. They'll probably sneak up and upset some teams, but don't think they're going to be a tournament team.
They also have beaten Temple, North Carolina State, Memphis, UCF and California. that’s pretty good for a team that went 12 and 21 last season.
Looked very good last night. Tough, great 3 pt shooters, muscular, we will have a hard time in Oxford.
