Still the third best record in the conference this his 4th season, with wins over lsu, state and the aggies. That's high cotton for the Rebs, especially since he inherited a team that went 4-8 the year before.
In tg e acc? Sec that’s pretty good. Oh, ok piss. Still far from sec Cham level but far better than us.
My point is that it took Drinkwitz four years to get to 10 wins and he did so after posting three losing seasons. Napier is probably going to post three losing seasons and still be retained for all the reasons mentioned above. Even if Napier wins 10 games in year four he could still get trounced by Georgia because that program is not slowing down and Florida is not close to their level yet.
I dont think the MIzzou football fan base is comparable tho, nor is their championship history. Id bet this 10 win season is more of a blip in their program, not some springboard to a championship or the playoffs. For a different comparison, a more accomplished Charlie Strong had 3 straight losing season (16-21) at blue blood Texas and got fired.
That “we are a blue blood, 3X championship program” approach to recruiting or supporting the Gator program no longer works. In this new era of college football where head coaches are getting guaranteed contracts longer than 4 years, key players allegedly get paid more than some coaching assistants, and Transfer Portal 2.0 has led to limited free agency, the Florida program needs to follow the “what have you done lately” mantra. I would never compare the Florida program to Missouri’s, but I already have my vivid memories of going from 0-10-1 to three national championships in my lifetime. Recruits considering Florida can barely tell the difference between Florida’s football program and Missouri’s football program using memories from their lifetimes. Head coaches considering jobs at Florida are looking
In essence we are stuck trying to be two different things at the same time while excelling at neither.
Unnecessary trick plays, not feeding your playmakers..... Couldn't have said this any better. A focus on basic fundamentals alone would net 3 additional wins. That has been the most disappointing aspect of this season for me.
Look at our 2024 schedule and tell me our record next year is going to be any better than the last 2! I will speculate that it will be even worse. 2024 Football Schedule - Florida Gators
We have to get some good players from the portal if we are going to get better. You can’t beat veterans with highschool kids. We are building a solid foundation but kids take a few years to develop,
If “the process” cannot deliver improvement in year 3, then the process is by definition garbage. No need to continue it at that point.
it depends on how you measure improvement. I expect we will be a better team this year. Will be better but will we have a better record. I don’t know about that. Portal is going to shake up our entire schedule. We should have a better idea soon.
Saban was 6-6 his first year in 2007 and 12-0 in 2008 before the Gators beat them in the SECCG. We played some of the best football I could remember in recent years in the 4th quarter of that game to beat them too. There was no "Process" for them!!!
Yeah Saban was nationally competitive in year 2 at Bama, as was smart. Dabo is the only true “slow fix” guy out there. The simple fact is that most good coaches show year over year improvement, which allows them to recruit towards a future they can sell. Billy regressed in year two, which makes it harder to sell a vision for. It also riles up the fans which makes the system noise worse. He has no one to blame but himself.
There’s a difference between improving and having schedule. We could be a lot better in the five and seven. There’s injuries there’s bad calls there’s all kind of dumb shit that can happen.
