We tried like hell to lose it. Fortunately that emphasis on rebounding really played dividends. Dominating the glass was pretty much the only thing that put this team over the top in this game and sealed it at the end. Also while the team were sloppy as hell with the ball, somehow points off turnovers was even 11-11. The actual turnover situation felt way worse in real time (probably just because several were just comically bad giveaways). Also the stats posted above said 0-0 fast break points. That can’t possibly be correct, can it? Seemed like there were spurts of tempo that had to count as a “fast break”, but what do I know.
That was some of the worst half court offense I’ve seen under Golden. Not sure what was going on, at times in the 2nd half it almost devolved into Pullin putting his head down and trying to drive or trying to back his man down. Just didn’t look good in terms of spacing and ball movement. Not sure if ECU scouted something against us, or it was just us being sloppy. Obviously the refs let a lot of contact go which made some of the interior finishes tougher to come by.
Yet still a dub. Found a way when only Clayton was on and only for a half. Could find no rhythm. Really weird, sloppy game. Plenty of faults to point out, but I'm just going to enjoy not losing. That game was an L for the last too-many years....
Pullin “ Coach I’m wide open , not even guarding me”. Golden — “there is a reason they aren’t guarding u”
East Carolina hasn't played Mississippi State this year. They lost to South Carolina last Saturday by 6 and have also lost to George Mason by 22, Northeastern by 6, and USC Upstate by 2. They haven't beaten any good team and we should have blown them out. But terrible free throw shooting, turnovers and a no show from our supposed best player Riley Kugel kept them in the game.
Kugel looks almost disinterested at times. He's got so much talent and athleticism, but some games he's just not mentally with it. If he could get back to the Kugel he was the last half of last year, this team could be so much better. But tonight he was a liability on the court and the team played better with Clayton, Richard and Pullin on the floor.
Got to break the streak sometimes or you'll never go again. Could always use more Gator fans. Hopefully your due.
Yep. Sometimes you just have to rely on defense and aggression. When all else fails, that just might be enough to get the W.
