Apparently under the NCAA rules, a player has to sit out a year after the first transfer. They only get one transfer with immediate eligibility. I assume this rule is for guys like Dillon Gabriel. I'm really getting to despise what's happening to college football.
They can have two freebies, but the second has to be a graduate transfer, which is why Gabriel will be immediately eligible at wherever he lands in 2024.
Looking up this court case it states that Ohio AG Dave Yost led the charge on a lawsuit against the NCAA with 6 other states. The best thing about all of this is that Dave Yost’s alma mater is Ohio State University. Now I’m sure there’s absolutely no intention to help his alma mater’s football program with the transfer portal issues.
Wow...back to unlimited free agency. Its time to get rid of scholarships. Field teams from the students that show up and pay their way if there are enough. Let boosters pay whomever they want anything they want to go to any school they want and the schools can decide to admit whoever they want based on any criteria, academic, athletic, etc.. Any semblance of creating an equal playing field is over.
I know people don't like it but as long as scholarships are one year deals, a player should have the right to seek out a new one every year of eligibility.
This is the answer and its a quick trip to fully out from there. CFB has to be very careful these next few years or risk the golden goose. Hard to bring back fans once they realize there are other things to do on Saturdays. Already happened to me and the NFL.
There is a reason major sports had to simulate crowd noise and crop the empty seats out of the TV picture during Covid restrictions. Players are the most important component to the actual game but fans and fanfare is what make sports exciting. Fans go too far sometimes with trash talk and criticism but treat the fans like they are meaningless has its repercussions.
