Almost watched it tonight but went for a different movie. Disturbing sounds intriguing.

Mods might move this thread to the Pub, as they did with mine about the new season of Fargo, even though the new season of Fargo is very political and relevant to current issues.

Watched it yesterday and thought it was really good. The theme of the movie was a bit disturbing as it is not completely out of the realm of possibilities. Especially considering what's going on in the world today.

Thought it was a well done movie but also evidence of Netflix silly money in terms of the cast and soundtrack, both of which made it more enjoyable but felt like an unnecessary expense to tell the story.

But very thought provoking. I have yet to find a thinkpiece analyzing the plausibility of the various events the characters experienced (trying not to spoil). Will look more.

I watched it last night and found it thoroughly enjoyable, highly recommend especially if Lost or Manifest was your jam.
    Loved the ending!

Watched this morning, and it exceeded my expectations. Great cast. I’m still chewing on the ending.

Watched it. Enjoyed it, though I didn't think it was very realistic, at least not certain specifics (like where were all the people?). But I do think it's a near certainty that our technology-based civilization will collapse, and possibly, even probalby, in our lifetimes, so I am fascinated by movies that portray that.

I said the same thing. In an all out firesale type cyberattack there would be chaos everywhere. The people wouldn’t just disappear overnight lol. Instead the vibe here was more like the end stages of a zombie apocalypse or deadly world ending pandemic, like months or years had gone by.

Made no sense in terms of nailing how a cyberattack would play out. Not that it was necessarily even trying to be realistic (the deer in the woods was random nonsense as well). But i do think movies like this lose their impact when they defy logic or don’t make sense even within their own universe. I recall the film Contagion did a great job nailing how a pandemic would likely play out in society. It was uncanny. This in one? Eh. Had some funny set pieces and moments and SOME bits that you could see happening. It was entertaining enough, but could have been better.

I understood that the deer behavior was a product of the intense sounds, not the cyber attacks generally.

And in terms of it being empty where they were, I took that as being based on the fact that no one could get out of the city, which is why the bunker was empty. Mahershala's character got out of the city in anticipation of everything being shut down, and all the highways were shutdown. I assume that the area was one that is generally populated by those who get away from the city for the weekend

Yeah, I could have done without the goofy animal stuff. But I find the more realistic these types of movies are, the more disturbing and unpleasant they are. So in that regard, I guess I'm glad this movie wasn't as realistic as the reality of it will be when it really happens.

For this movie, I liked the dynamics between the characters and I liked that there was actually very little action in it. It's mostly dialog and suspense.

This movie embodied all my criticisms of Sam Esmail, lots of style, little substance. Building up suspense in an effective and engrossing way, with no payoff. Season 1 of Mr Robot, really cool, then it lost me and I checked out.
