Sounds like a bright young man. I like hearing about his wrestling background that should mean he understands leverage and can hopefully be a force on the line. Hope he chooses the Gators!
Hope we get this guy. Seems like a grounded, intelligent young man who has the physical tools and ability to help us.
We have DB coach and need DL. Could be until after bowls or an NFL team finishes up. It seems like Harris being available now is an anomoly for an NFL coach.
Yes, we need a DL Coach. I am talking about the obvious need for Special Teams coordinator and an Offensive Coordinator. Until we fire one of the OL coaches or others, we cannot hire an OC or STC. Without those two coaches we will be in the same rut where ST costs us a game or two. Lack of OC will lead to boring predicaltable offense again. If we stay the course, especially the STC issues, then it is just like McElwain not firing Nussmeir regardless of all the evidence to do so.
The only reason to complain about not having coaches in place is recruiting, and no recruit cares about a special teams coach. I personally don't care if it goes to an on field coach or we replace the analyst but either way whether it happens now or three weeks from now will change nothing.
I disagree. So much has been written about our ineptness on Special Teams, and there is already concern from recruits about Billy and staff being Herr beyond next year. If they don't see changes from Napier to fix the glaring, well documented, issues then they will see him as short term and look elsewhere.
I think you (and some other Gator fans) are setting yourselves up for disappointment. Maybe I missed it, but I have not heard Napier say he is going to fire one of the OL coaches or hire an OC. If he was going to fire one of the OL coaches I feel it would have happened by now. The Special Teams issues are easily solved. Personally, I'm fine with an Analyst handling the job but I know most want a position coach to take on that responsibility. Regardless, Napier just needs to dedicate more time to ST during the week and I have a feeling they will get better.
It's been stated dozens of times that the OL coaches are on expiring contracts, thus don't need to be fired. I do agree with the general sentiment regarding replacing them and getting an OC, unfortunately.
Has it been stated that neither OL coach will get a new contract? The OL coaches are still going on visits to see recruits. I like Napier as a play caller but college football has evolved. I hope he brings in a play caller but I have not heard him say that is the plan. But right now I think the primary task is hiring a DL coach. Maybe his top candidates are doing bowl prep.
This was posted four days ago. I don't think Napier would send them out to visit our top OL commitment if they weren't coming back. What do you think they said? "Neither of us will be employed by UF b/c our contract is expiring and at some point Napier will hire a new OL coach. I'm sure you'll love whomever he hires. Lets keep in touch. Go Gators!"
There have been rumblings about CBN will look tonhire a OC. If it's who I think it may be , thatvcoach has a NY6 game Vs. Oregon in a couple weeks so we may not hear anything official till then. I'm surprised No one is tracking the 2 UF planes. Their flight plans have been telling.
makes no sense for a program like UF, who is struggling with on field results and right now, off field perception… It is nice to let a perspective new hire coach in a bowl game…but why? Lane Kiffin was the OC at Bama and before national title game, left to be head coach at FAU. National title game > NY6 bowl with half the players sitting out. UF seems to allow every potential new hire to stall and help current team vs helping Uf. Unless it is the home run hire of home run hires, and a contract has been signed by both parties, I’d move on to someone else. Napier waited on 2-3 NFL coaches for his original staff to finish their seasons but…that gave time for counter proposals and promotions and those coaches (Such as Henderson on the Rams and Scott on Vikings) backed out and Napier was forced to move on to lesser candidates. Not having these coaches in place sooner vs later hampers both high school and portal recruiting. Just a fact. Year 1, whatever, year 3 after two losing seasons…Napier is hurting himself if he is truly sitting and waiting on nfl or NY6 Bol games to be played out. sounds like we may have hired the DB coach out of the nfl, but UF hasn’t announced yet. 2 other colleges also hired NfL assistants already so it does happen that they can move to college now and not wait for end of season. my beef with waiting is that Napier blew most goodwill he had with many fans by having two straight losing seasons. And by waiting for coaches instead of pushing them to come now (if that is the situation) only makes his job harder in the long run.
