I think the kid is going to take a hit; not Ole Miss. It's a money grab.

He won't be getting a jury in Florida to decide his fate, if that tells you anything.

Not winnable but they will settle to keep from discovery.

That's because there is a robust player mental health program here (which I know about first hand) and Kiffin's staff was trying to contact him (which I heard second hand but from someone I trust).

I am confident that Ole Miss has a robust student health/counseling program, just as every other University in the country has.
I don't think that mental health, or emotional comfort, are the responsibility of the football coach.

As far as how you talk to folks, I assume that the people who are judgemental never played football at the high school or college level. Most of the coaches I knew would suggest that anyone who did not have the mental toughness to take some constructive criticism, aka verbal abuse, should join the band. Maybe play the flute.
But, since athletic departments have deep pockets, and big PR budgets, it is not difficult to predict how this will play out.
Off topic, I wonder if the modern Marine DI has also been 'encouraged' to be more considerate of feelings than the ones I knew and loved.

    From the article:

This sounds a little suspicious to me. If his claim was that he had a diagnosed mental health issue with doctor recommendations to sit and the coaches ignored him, I might tend to side more with the kid.

But when his primary argument appears to center not on mental health but on racial AND sexual discrimination in the enforcement, it becomes a little more suspect in my mind that he's just trying to get money I would think he has a lot to prove to actually get anything. Probably just looking for a settlement.

No way would Saban had used that kind of language or tried so hard to humiliate that kid.

Lol, Saban dressed down Kiffin worse than that on the sideline during games.

Maybe. Maybe not. According to Kiffin, Saban used harsh language in dressing down his own offensive coordinator, in front of the players, from time to time. That he would use harsher language in private with a player who was wasting one of his scholarships would not shock me.

Lane Kiffin shares hilarious story of getting chewed out by Nick Saban

I think he WAS, not sure he is now. He was pretty young when he got handed major head coaching jobs and he clearly wasn't ready for it. He seems to have grown up a bit, but I dunno.

As far as this kid? A coach yells at you for not showing up for meetings, and this is a federal case ( or was a federal case)? What a crock.

Perhaps I just don't understand how things work. I thought football coaches called players P....y, loser, crybaby, blah blah blah, all the time. Am I wrong?

What I have a problem with is the kid has mental health issues and he might need to be meeting with a therapist

No. He filed in a Mississippi Federal Court. HIs only other option was to file in a Mississippi State Court. He would have zero chance of winning in state court.

The article discussing the dismissal of the fed court action doesn't give a reason for the dismissal.

The team has a robust metal health protocol and works closely with the associated departments on campus. I know this first hand, which is also why I never really believed this was ever going anywhere. If you work at the university, a lot of the accusations made no sense in any other context beyond seeking money.

Lane Kiffin was a 40 year old man making millions of dollars working a job. Prior to NIL, these were student athletes, purportedly amateurs, who were given scholarships in exchange for this experience.

More importantly, it is one thing, and expected, for a coach to use harsh language. However, to publicly berate and dig in on somebody having mental health issues? How about: (1) walk away and kick them off the team, (2) calmly state that if they do not want to be on the team, they will be removed. Kiffin called the mental health claim BS so he is taking responsibility for understanding and being involved with it. Kid commits suicide, what then? Dumb move by a guy making +$7M/year, and not the move of a leader. Hell of a coach though.
