Have we gone big? Muschamp was coach-in-waiting at UT so I guess you can say big hire. Mcelwain certainly isn’t going big, no one knew who the hell he was. Mullen wasn’t a big hire, but a safe one. Napier had a little buzz, but I wouldn’t say that was going big, in fact I would argue that Florida hasn’t gone big enough.
Going big doesn’t guarantee success, unfortunately. Chip Kelly would have been going big, and hasn’t done much with UCLA.
Why would you argue that? Kirby, Lanning, DeBoer, Sark, Norvell (Ew) all not "big hires" yet doing well.
Lol... even some of our fans are jumping into the portal. J/k... But all over the internet there have been chatter about UGA planting the idea that Trevor should transfer to them. This part below has nothing to do with you per se, but I have to mention it here, hope you're okay with that. Why did what's happening with Trevor used to be called tampering... and now some people here say it's perfectly within NCAA rules to do this? Maybe they get caught up on the word "Legal" when they claim that it's not tampering. There is a difference between against an NCAA rule, and against the the law.
Mullen appeared to be a very good hire. He did great with the portal and also put together a high scoring team. Too bad he didn't have the fire to succeed, (although he said he did). Mullen was more interested in leveraging is early success at UF into an NFL gig. IMO, no recruiting for him and he could concentrate on just football. At the time, Chump looked like a very good hire. Chump's initial move of bringing in Cheeseburger and going from the up and coming spread to pro style doomed his time going forward at UF. Chump could never get a dangerous offense. Mac was doomed from the start. He just didn't fit Mullen's lack of playing hardball with his underperforming assistants and his lack of desire to become a great college coach did him in.
Just listened to Coach Meyer from Buddy Martin show: Summarizing Gator fans have a right to be upset. Talked about his expectations, and that at Florida we should be competing to be the very best of the best Billy has his process-but has to get it going. Norvell- should be coach of year and has done a great job.
Lol... one of Napier's high character guys? SMH. If there's one truth in this world, it's that money changes everything.
His brother might even be behind all of this BS transferring to begin with. It has to be about money... and tampering.
It is definitely tampering. I haven’t seen the rule or law written on it, but nobody is enforcing it, so it doesn’t really matter. A lot of this stuff is back channeled too, so it’s hard to prove, especially if you don’t have subpoena power.
Mullen and Muschamp were big hires. Napier was a high ceiling hire, but still a huge risk. That’s my opinion. As to how much bigger Florida can go, who do you have in mind? Lincoln Riley had a disappointing season at Southern Cal.
I said to my sons before the UK game “If Napier doesn’t start Mr Explosive Etienne, we will lose.” Wish I had been wrong. He should’ve started all year. Our offense has no idea how to throw to the RB which is how is brother became an AA at Clemson. You get those guys in open space, they’re gone. I think it’s petty to question the character of #7. Sick of everyone blaming the players for the staffs shortcomings
Riley had a disappointing year, but is probably a good DC hire away from turning that around. I wanted us to go big. Go out there and hire a big time coach away from a big time team (like USC did with Riley). I wasn't on the Napier train. I'll support him while he is here but I'm not going to ignore the warts (the guy hired William Peagler to be his TE coach for crying out loud). I'll say this: his record isn't good, he was going to bring back a lot of starters for 2024 but has now lost his best offensive and defensive player to the portal, he has yet to hire a DL or DB coach and signing day is coming up, and he kept Mr. 700 as his DC. If the class falls apart anymore and he whiffs on coaching hires.. well it is pretty easy to tell how this is going to turn out. I root for him because he is the Gators coach, but the guy has done some nonsensical things on and off the field.
If that is true, it will be interesting to see if he can unseat the RB's that are already there and know the offense. I doubt he'll be featured back there. He's a stud for sure, but they have a bunch of guys that already know what they are doing in the offense. That takes time. He will definitely have a better offensive line to run behind, so he should shine when the opportunity presents itself.
It’s not about whether he can unseat other backs who are “in front of him” at UGA. He clearly lacks faith in Napier’s handling of his future and has this faith in Smart’s ability to get him best prepared for the NFL. Etienne doesn’t need to start to be drafted as a running back if he’s at UGA. This all he cares about: development, winning and the NFL draft.
Ridiculous post - UF doesn’t have to pay engineering students hundred$ of thou$and$ of Dollar$ to enroll in the College of Engineering.
The money and grants available to the engineering dept definitely play a role in luring the top engineering students.
