Everybody in the country is after that Ivy League DL, and the Pitt guy is a perfect complementary player to the roster. The Oregon guy I'm not nuts about on the surface, but honestly don't know enough to comment one way or the other.
I’m sure we need the Penn guy and all but it’s not like you just took a sure fire tackle. He should be at least competent. I mean we need some difference makers. Somebody needs to get penetration to the qb up the middle. He looks good in the Ivy , hopefully it translates.
Well, the 3 best DL in the portal are from: Am- Nolen and we aren’t paying Am- Overton not getting him Florida- Princely- hmmmmm Slackman to me is number 4 and honestly a must get. He’s going to do a solid job occupying o lineman. With what we are not getting, what we are losing, etc. etc. when you look at the whole picture we absolutely have to get him
This is a move in the right direction to have four quality transfers on campus immediately… Come away with two or three of them and one or two high school commits this week and I would say nice weekend for Billy
This is my opinion - not fact I do understand that…but these type of transfers are players that will help us with depth and compete with and maybe defeat the UKs , Mizzou, and similar SEC programs. These are not transfers that will help us compete with and defeat the Georgia, LSU, Texas of the SEC. The DB from Oregon state was a rotational player this year. The DT from Michigan state was a rotational player. The receiver had similar stats to former gator X Henderson from a year or two ago. To beat elite and just good teams we will need transfers that move the needle more. That is my opinion. Which could prove to be wrong. But outside of Slackman these guys were not difference makers on their current teams. (Slackman may be an exception if he is able to step up in competition but remains to be seen).
When Mertz transferred I read a B10 journalist who thought Mertz was going to a much worse situation because of how much better the Wisky receivers were than Florida's. I think there was some truth to that and Dike was likely the best though they had another speedy guy as well. I didn't see them as having reliable hands. I am not opposed to this because he is probably an improvement over Douglas, but we still need a replacement for Pearsall's production.
And so far he hasn't been wrong and he got the Harris hire right 5 or so days ago. Here what he posted on the 5th
