I second this. I can go hunting all fall and then start watching the Gators in the winter.

Very true. However, football is the money making engine that drive the train for all the other athletic programs and that part needs to get fixed ASAP or the ripple effects will be felt down through every program on campus.

 

Shouldn't Max Brown be dropped from the baseball roster, since he TP'ed from football?

I don't agree, we're gonna spend $400 million upgrading the Swamp and reducing capacity while increasing amenities and whatnot. I absolutely hate the thought and that money should go to increasing whatever would help us win. Usually the comments below tweets like this suck but the comments are worth reading, the fans don't want this and to hell with reducing capacity. Shannon Snell put it nicely. It's just incredibly tone deaf when Stricklin will be gone soon or at the very least when Napier gets canned fall 2024.

 

Second time quoting but that statement remains utterly clueless. It all revolves around an incompetent athletic department whose hiring record is terrible. Foley had hits and misses but for the relevance of this board Sully and Walton were home runs, we've upgraded both of their situations for good reasons because they both deserved it and at no detriment to football.

FWIW At a minimum, they need to correct the error made (as I rmember) in the early '70s to reduce the width of each individual seat by a couple of inches, effectively adding a couple of seats to each row. Until I moved past age 70, I never really worried about comfort at Fball games. I dressed for high heat, I took in a seat cushion to protect my butt, I had aisle seats to stretch out one leg and generally accepted discomfort as part of the price of admission. After 63 years of that approach, I decided a minimum level of comfort does matter and gave up season tix.

Baseball season tix + booster prices clearly show that people will pay big tix/booster increases for a comfortable environment to watch a quality product. That last factor is critical, given the quality of the current product. 2009 football demonstrated both sides of that coin. Prior to both the SECC game and the Sugar Bowl game, bosters paying less than $1000/seat were notified don't even think about sending money for tix, you cheap beggars. However,after the bama loss in ATL, when too few front-runner rich folks chose to pass on the Sugar Bowl, I got a series of letters and emails explaining UAA would deign to accept my measly carcass at the game, but they still sold far less than their tix allotment and took a financial bath. In my case, I already had made other commitments for that weekend and had to watch that good game on TV. UAA still recognizes that it's rich folks' money that meets the major revenue goals at bama, LSU, dawgs, Mich, The OSU and other big programs. If they do a good job securing THAT money, It's easy to fill the few remaining seats with little people. As as a (figurative) little person, I understand my low place in the financial pecking order.

 

We really are forced to make major changes to the Swamp. Since it is not ADA compliant (no hand rails on aisles), once first renovation is made, all of the current issues we are default in must come with it. With that said, I have been to most every stadium in the SEC, minus MO and Vandy, the Swamp is at the bottom when it comes to food and amenities. I get most believe we should keep it as is, however there is so much wasted space in the south end zone and Yon Hall that needs to be reimagined. We have no central kitchen inside of the stadium which leads to most everything being brought in from the outside. Our sky box and Touchdown Terrace seating offerings are also very much outdated. Add in a terrible sound system and outdated video boards, is reason why they are pursuing all of this now.

 

What are the players doing now during the period between fall ball and spring (winter) practice? And, when does practice begin?

D1Bsb has a current article on two-way players, with Jac listed #1. While I'm well aware that Jac is special for us, it was striking to read about the other players they presented. All of them were remarkable, but Jac's performance has been superior to every one of them. A few guys on the list were solid hitters who are able to get outs from the mound and others were good pitchers and decent with the bat. We see that sort of college player every year, including a few past and current Gators. Jac needs to be more consistent on the mound- and his fall performance suggests he will be- but he can be dominant on the mound and IS dominant at the plate. Even after Wyatt's great performance in '22-'23, 2024 may be even more exceptional for Jac and the team. I try hard not to be spoiled by the high quality teams Sully gives us every year, but it still is nice to be reminded how lucky we are.

With Langford gone I feel like we’re going to face an approach by several opponents of circling Jac’s name on the lineup card with the notation right beside it that says “the one guy we don’t let beat us at the plate”…..

We faced that approach a lot back when Matt LaPorta was in our lineup. Jac’s gonna have a big spotlight on him for different reasons this coming season.
