He was not given a winning program by Mullen. That’s a huge hole to climb out of. We are not a good defensive team for 4-5 years. So what benchmark to use?
Endless excuses for BN. None for DM by the BN lovers/DM haters. Would love to have DM back with his top 15 recruiting classes. Even his worst year was easier to watch than BN's first 2.
Dan literally quit on the job and there's a few of you out here still defending the ramshackles he left behind. He didn't recruit Trask and got very lucky he was forced to actually play him. Otherwise, would have been an utter failure the entire tenure.
You really believe that? Mullen seemed to me to just give up and throw in the towel. In one of the post game conversations, his mouth sure seemed to say “wtf you gonna do, fire me?” He’d already quit and was daring the admin to make it so and send him off with his golden parachute. I thought the Bama game was what really crushed him, but players and others close to the program say it started with the LSU game the previous year. The fact that he hasn’t taken a job yet, even at a lower level reinforces my thoughts that he might have just been fed up and done with the whole thing.
If this class falls apart and you think Billy is getting past this year, you are quite the optimist. Plus we need elite talent at those two spots to even be remotely competitive on D. I'm pretty much a Billy guy still, but this class has to hold together.
He’s not far off. BN was brought in to recruit better than Mullen. If this class falls apart he’s close to what Mullen accomplished on the trail without the on-field record. 2024 season will be telling.
he has recruited a good notch better than Mullen as far as quality of players, but he has to keep it together
LOL. Not even worth responding to. At least I got about 3 years of relief from this now 13 year decline while DM was here. Enjoy the chitshow revival under Billy Bob. It's only gonna get worse.
You don't know that yet. These guys he's recruited have done nothing special yet. Obviously they haven't won anything.
Ok who are the best recruits under Mullen, that he recruited, who had the most success at college level while at UF?
I definitely think he got fed up but don't know his specific reasons. Head coach at UF (and several other places) is a thankless job so it's not surprising. Then you throw on top of that the coming NIL chitshow and it's pretty understandable that he would want out. I don't blame him but I sure wish we could have kept him happy enough to want to coach us.
Don't know. Don't care. You get him some decent players (which IMO is not the head coach's job) and he wins. If you think all those great players the gumps got over the last 15 years were due to Saban, I've got some swampland I'd like to sell ya. He did have the power to tell the gump mafia to go get him the players or else though since they were desperate at the time. DM had no such power at UF. Re BN, I seriously doubt he wins anything (even the SEC East) even with great players. He's just not a good coach. At least in a Power 5 conference.
