I never felt that I played worse when I was sick. Physical injuries were different.

Sounds like you were crying inside that you couldn’t do those exotic dunks too :D

As many dunks as our guys miss, I guess they need to practice those too. And the bunnies, sheesh. Make your bunnies.

Banking a FT regularly is a low %. One little drift left or right will cause the ball to clang off the rim with little chance of rattling in. Shooting for the net still allows a slightly shorter shot bounce off the front of the rim and in the basket.
Even shooting for the net but a tad too long still gives a chance to go in if the ball bounces vertically. (a la Ollie in Hoosiers)
I’ve seen the current consecutive FT shooter shoot and he aims for the front of the rim. At 5,225 FT’s in a row, I’m not going to quibble with his form.
I taught my sons and now my grandsons to try to hit the backboard square when shooting from the sides; the % of making these shots from the sides off the backboard is dramatically higher than trying to swish these shots.
When I was in 8th grade, I made 33 FT in a row at practice; the next game, I missed the front end of a 1 and 1. The coach dissed me at halftime and never played me again.
I’m pretty sure I could have beaten him - I need to let this go!

Ever shot 'em in front of 6k or 10k screaming people who are watching your every move? I wonder how easy that is.

The ball has to travel farther for the bank shot.

Sounds like good advice. Reminds me of Jerry Rice, who said that he focused on the point of the ball when catching.

True, but with the backboard you have a can't-miss target. But I've gathered from the discussion here that even with that you're likely to miss the basket. There's a reason I never played basketball (except as a kid on the playground, where I always banked my shots).

Kind of like making a 3 foot putt on the practice green and making a 3 foot putt to win $100, $3 mil, or for your country (Ryder Cup) - big difference.

Also, in practice you might shoot 10 in a row…..rested…..no pressure.

Try sprinting 8 times up and back, moving around in all directions to simulate defense on one end…..gets banged around in the paint…..really get hit on a shot simulating “drawing a foul”….and now go and shoot two.

you would make them do something that’s more difficult, piss poor coaching

youd be out of a job as you would have the only team with a team FT % below 50%

No, I'd be teaching them how to deal with life's adversities.

But they would win the championship of life.
