6 states sue NCAA over transfer rules

Imagine the academic fraud in medical schools for the sake of winning in football. This is becoming such a joke now. Let’s just create a NFL minor league and let those chasing money to go there out of HS. Let those who want to play real college football go to these universities and represent them with pride. And of course earn their educational goals.

 

So you would work for free due to allegiance to your company? How does that make the NFL bad?

 

It pretty much works the same except the players have no contract so neither side is protected. Full free agency every year. What a load of crap.

 

I wish working for free meant I got 100k+ in benefits a year. Sign me up.

 

one solution is that for anyone gets NIL, put a non compete clause in their contract. Then transfers are all traditional student athletes.
But they are killing the golden goose, one short sighted hap hazard change at a time. I am about done, and I’m sure I’m not alone. It’s crazy how fast the sport has gone from my favorite sport to what almost feels like an obligation.

 

If the NIL contracts can’t be tied to a specific school or playing time/performance on the field, what is the non-compete for? Also, non competes rarely hold up.

 

First step may be to make pay to play legal . That’s what it is anyway so I don’t see that as a stumbling block. My thoughts are that the schools like it exactly how it is. They hold all the cards. They get 85 professional sthletes and all they have to do is house them and feed them and they get $100 million for that? Seems like a pretty sweet peel to me.

 

We’ve been round and round on this. I have no problem implementing a salary and even a salary cap, I just don’t think it would fix anything because the third party money is such a part of the college game. It’s not going away and will be used to circumvent any type of cap you put in place.

To implement any type of cap, there will have to be some type of cba too, which the players will have to agree to. Otherwise it’s called collusion, or price fixing, and it’s illegal. Why would the kids agree to this? Right now they hold all the cards and they’re getting way more than they’re worth. The nfl athletes agreed to it because it gave them a guaranteed share of the pie and more than they were getting before. The college athletes are in a position of power at the moment and have no reason to give it up.

I don’t like it, but that’s what it is.

 

Hell... why not just make it a game/game basis... you're a 5* QB riding the bench at Georgia & a QB goes down. Transfer.

CB, S, DL, etc...... no limits free agency for all. It's headed that way folks. Watch.

 

That seems to be what some people, even people here, are for... not me. These six states want the worst of the worst in college football.

How about 2 years? Many of these guys turn out to be busts — you really want to stay locked into an unproven 18 year old for 4 years?

 

They aren't working for a company. If they want to do that, they should give McDonald's a call.

They don't work at all; they play a sport that they supposedly love. Why else would they play it all their lives? A they are given a free ride to college. Most normal people love college. They say college years were the best of their lives.

If all you and your misguided ilk think is that college athletes have a job for which they are unpaid, you have missed a great deal.

 

What's the difference between the "national championship" and the "Superbowl" the age of the players? not many NFL lite organizations survive. College football fit a niche in the past even with its imperfect "under the table" system. as college football morphs into the NFL with player employee contracts and free agency something will have to give. It Will be interesting to see that "something" is.

 

The real problem with the NCAA is that they play favorites when handing down punishment for violations. And what's worse is that some of these violations they "investigate" are really bad... yet they lead to no punishment. See UNC as an example.

All of this has actually rekindled my interest in the NFL. I’ve had virtually no interest in it for years, but as I have become more soured and jaded about cfb, I find myself watching a lot more NFL games these days.

 

My Sundays have been free for some years now and I like it.
