We are in a unique position with an elite collective/booster position but not an elite team So we can steal the lesser brands top talent as the already elite teams don't need to over stock talent they already have hence make ourselves elite using $$$ and poaching.
One thing is for sure, Napier is doing an awful job in the portal. One of the worst in the SEC so far. When you look at the players just in the SEC hitting the portal and going to other SEC schools, only one school isn't even getting a single look - Florida. Vandy is doing a better job than we are. Kentucky was able to land a Georgia QB. Auburn landed one of the best players in all of college football last year from A&M (and also poaching another 5 star from FSU). Yet, of all of the needs we have on both sides of the line, not one look from any offensive or defensive lineman currently in the portal. That tells you something is wrong with the program.
Why not just buy a trophy for the case? Just cut out the extra steps. Can we just pay the players on other teams to not play?
None. This stuff doesn’t even have to be reported to the school anymore so nobody but the individuals signing the paperwork know the real numbers. I saw they had changed that policy when I went to look up something else the other day. They used to have a blurb about how the school needed to approve you as an entity and you had to report the deals and they would help with the 1099’s. The new blurb basically says anyone can cut the deals, and you don’t have to tell anyone. They do state that they have to actually do something for the money, and there are certain entities, like gambling websites, that are not allowed to cut deals.
I didn’t read through this thread, is it sarcasm? Or are you proposing to pay millions more to 8 new guys than the other 75 dudes on the team?
The balance between what ur paying to fill the roster and what current players are making would be a challenge but they'd have to understand - we need 8-10 dudes/studs or we get our ass handed to us
What we want is a "Micah" kind of player in football. The "Samuel" types are great but you get them for one year only. And in football, they are pricey. And to use Samuel as a real analogy, none of us thought he was the missing piece. Very nice surprise, but you do NOT win a NC by buying a team with 10-15 "nice surprises". I think we would have to change the dynamic of our off-field staff to include scouting just about every FCS team for those hidden gems who are prepared to move up in class and don't want to wait until the NFL scouts find them. It is all a damn big mess, and I am not even talking about Napier and Associates.
I’m not sure even those guys spent on TAMU’s level the last few years. They went and bought a sitting national championship winning coach, then outright bought him a number one class. They spent boatloads, and got nothing for it, but a bill they’re still paying.
