Billy needs to study and think about it a little longer.. He is thinking there are plenty of coaches and portal’s out there. No need to rush. No one is calling a delay penalty here
Hopefully he is frantically working behind the scenes and we just don’t know what’s going on. It does seem like he’s taking a walk in apart, but maybe not.
As you say. I look forward to seeing this grand turnaround in our opener against Miami on August 31. I think it will tell us much about what the future holds.
There's talk now that the holes will boycott the game. If that happens the ncaa should sue them for being a no show which is what they would be even if they did show up. I'm sure Liberty would jump at the opportunity to play in that game.
Pressure’s entirely on us. Everyone expects FSU to get beaten down. But if FSU does manage to pull off the upset it’ll be UCF 2.0 and we’ll never hear the end of it.
I'm a supporter of Billy, but he wasn't aggressive last year in the portal & fsu was. Example Coleman Also where are the hires for the fired coaches? I seriously hope it's just a behind the scenes deal. UF needs to throw the checkbook at Pittman too and an aggressive OC.
We play in a tougher conference with teams that challenge for the NC every year. Clemson was the ONLY perennial NC challenging contender in FSU’s conference and they have fallen off. The SEC championship game usually features an either or or even sometimes both situation going to the playoffs. There is great room for improvement which I think will be possible when players and coaches are not looking over their shoulders from the cries for new coaches.
I guess we’ll see. What you don’t seem to understand about Napier’s deal being structured to guarantee five seasons is, those who structured that guarantee probably didn’t think they were signing up for four consecutive losing seasons before they would consider if they had made the correct hire. They probably thought they might have to live with, say, a couple of years where we scraped by with seven or eight wins before we started to see meaningful gains. They probably thought we were going to see significant improvements in on-field coaching by the end of Napier’s second year. In other words, Napier had not even met the relatively modest expectations the decision makers had. You might think that won’t be cause for them to pull the plug in 2024 if we see more of the same BS, but I don’t think so. Grace period is over.
I am not so sure. You may be right but I think the decision makers knew that it would take some time to rebuild (as much as 5 years) as we were falling apart. Our defensive coaches killed us. The way we played against teams who were decent, at best, showed how weak we were. You have to recruit DAILY to win in the SEC. Mullen is pretty good with Xs and Os but not very good with recruiting and he did not hire anyone to compensate for that weakness. He thought that he was good enough to overcome his weaknesses. He needed a big-time defensive recruiter instead of a pal of his. I am sure that SS saw this and kept warning Mullen but Mullen thought that he was on a roll and could make up the difference. Unfortunately, one of his QBs just did not measure up under the pressure and the other QB was a great physical talent but had no maturity at all. Many supporters kept looking at the physical gifts but did not take into account AR's immaturity and unwillingness to learn how to be a QB. The Colts went for the physical talents but so far the immaturity has still been his downfall. There are a ton of talented players who have gone through the NFL and accomplished little because they just never had the maturity to use their talents. I am sure that SS thought that it could take at least 5 years to get back to the top after Mullen. He hoped that it would take less but that was just wishful thinking. And we, as fans, always dream of the best scenario. But one does not give a new coach an 7-year contract if you think that he is going to win right away. That makes no sense. You would have to throw it out almost immediately. SS knew that it would take time. From what I have been told, the Bullgators and the administration know that this is a hard rebuild and will take time. It will be interesting to see how people take it. Others may disagree.
He did bring in 12 transfers last year, including Mertz. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he couldn't have done more. fsu was definitely living in the portal, but, I think they had to.
A press conference with Smart and Norvell got cancelled and that led some folks to think that FSU was going to boycott the game. They will not. Too much money at stake to cancel and it will not be a good look for FSU at this point.
Maybe they will find one COVID case and cancel the game they don't want to play. fsu is pretty good at that.
If FSU shows up and beats UGA then they have every right to bitch about being left out. However, I don't think they will get within 4 tds of UGA and that's being generous. I'm in the camp that the last two games without their starter showed they weren't the same team they were with him.
