Florida woman tries to burn down birthplace of MLK, Jr.

A Florida woman was arrested Thursday in Atlanta after she poured gasoline on the birth home of Martin Luther King Jr. and tried to burn down the historical landmark until she was stopped by bystanders, according to authorities.

Officers with the Atlanta Police Department responded at 5:45 p.m. Thursday to a report of vandalism at 501 Auburn Ave. NE, the site of King’s birth in January 1929, authorities said in a news release. An incident report reviewed by The Washington Post says a 26-year-old woman from Brandon “had poured gasoline” on King’s birth home, which is now a museum operated by the National Park Service, until she was interrupted by two tourists visiting from Utah. When Atlanta police arrived in the Auburn Avenue Historic District, they found the woman had been detained by two off-duty New York Police Department officers who were also visiting Atlanta, according to WSB-TV, an ABC affiliate in Atlanta.

Actually, it's pretty gloomy and 51. That is his sad approval rating in the state, the third lowest approval rating of all governors. He's almost #1! His disapproval rating is worse at 45, second highest disapproval rating.

No warm front coming anytime soon either. Keeps getting colder and colder and will be frozen into irrelevancny in two years.

Fifteen days before DeSantis leaves office we should start staging trained professional teachers, administrators and librarians at the state's borders and in cruise ships either 3 nautical miles off on the Atlantic side or 9 nautical miles off on the Gulf side ready to move in on day 1 and start restoring order.

It seems that the no chinese investment law has deep ranging implications that could cause real problems financing some major real estate deals. Desi has apparently really pissed off the big boys, hopefully they ban together and get rid of all of his sycophants too. Didn't see this one coming.

Real Estate Titans Battle DeSantis Over China Property Crackdown (msn.com)

Ron DeSantis rattled corporate America by making Walt Disney Co. a target of his conservative culture wars. Now, the Florida governor’s campaign to rid the state of Chinese influence is fueling a forceful backlash from big-name investors.

A group that represents companies including Blackstone Inc., Steve Ross’s Related Cos. and Barry Sternlicht’s Starwood Capital wants to roll back a law that went into effect in July that bans most Chinese investment in real estate in Florida. Other developers, including home builder Lennar Corp., also are pushing back on the statute. Lobbyists are pressing state lawmakers to pass legislation early next year to relax the restrictions, people involved in the process say.
    ..........................
Yet the law also bans most Chinese capital from being used to fund projects in Florida, choking off a relatively cheap source of financing for an engine of the state’s economy at a time of high interest rates and distress in commercial real estate. Firms with Chinese investors are barred from taking even small, non-controlling stakes in real estate deals under the statute.

“The law is far-reaching, very, very confusing, and the unintended consequences would be very, very detrimental,” said John Fish, chairman of the Real Estate Roundtable, a lobbying group for dozens of America’s biggest real estate investors, including Citigroup Inc., Blackstone, Related, Starwood and Wells Fargo & Co.

The head of DeSantis' super pac, Jeff Roe, abruptly resigned Saturday. He joins 5 other senior officials that have resigned since November...always a good sign.

The long term death toll from DeSantis as governor will be significant but near impossible to precisely trave and quantify.

Florida was set to receive $320 million, the third most of any state. The state Department of Transportation began drafting a plan to add trucker parking at rest stops, which staff said could fix the statewide shortage that kept drivers on the road longer, polluting more, as they searched for a place to stop.

The plan also suggested spending the money on things like electric buses and roundabouts, which reduce the amount of time idling cars sputter out climate-warming emissions at traffic lights. But last month, the department secretary, Jared Perdue, sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Transportation declining participation in the federal program.

Perdue said in the letter that the program was an example of government overreach that was “the continued politicization of our roadways,” echoing statements made by Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has said that climate change is “politicization of the weather.”

Florida now stands alone as the only state to say it would turn down the money, federal officials told the Tampa Bay Times. Any mention of the plan was wiped from the state’s website.

One has to be so ignorant and unethical to work in this Administration pushing policy

Stephanie Hayes, as only she can

Lastly, I hesitate to make this political because we are having a carefree time, but this is my fantasy. The current leaders of Florida, insert the snide Voldemort of your choice, wake up sweating in woolen sleeping caps after a series of sobering dreams featuring ghosts with bony fingers. They realize, “Hey, maybe I shouldn’t be a miserable collapsed central drain pipe sucking the diversity, zest, color, imagination, intellect and freedom out of this great state.” They frolic anew through the streets of Tampa Bay in slippers, pants optional, delivering spiral hams to the doorsteps of those they have wronged. The kind-hearted citizens forgive. They invite the reformed leaders inside and ask them politely to please do something about homeowners insurance. God bless us, every one.

Looks like Desantis figured out the TRUE reason for rising insurance costs....ESG

“I think you have a lot of movement to things like ESG and climate change and stuff which is causing these policies to be more expensive, which I don’t think is a legitimate way to do it,” the 2024 presidential candidate said.

Ron DeSantis blames high insurance costs on ‘ESG’

Probably because they are about 3 times more expensive than the national average.
