Poorly, but he still had a rep with the HS kids. I'm not saying this guy isn't a good coach. He very well might be. Of course he might not be also. Time will tell. What I'm saying is he's not going to move the meter with these recruits unless he's a hell of a salesman.
I'm pretty sure most high school kids don't even know who most position coaches are until they are introduced. Why on earth would a 17-year-old kid know an assistant who isn't actively recruiting them?
Not me. I have no problem with a methodical coach so just here for the occasional movmemet and to laugh at the little girls on this forum.
Yes, same guy, but in a position that is current. If some are going to call the coach out for where he coached, at least give him some credit. It is the NFL.
I dunno, Raymond has traditionally been a very good recruiter. There’s definitely a reason he’s not really moved up in his career though. Most LSU fans I know complained constantly about the db’s play under him.
You could count on one hand how many DB coaches are a house hold name. The kids who play the position on the other hand may know of him Ok then with his Rep (which I too was excited for) what big time recruits was he the Primary recruiter for? Jakeem Jackson and Dijon johnson are the only ones that have signed. Heard a lot from recruits about Raymond the GOAT etc, but they didn't sign to play for him. His results at UF did not match his resume and his reputation didn't help him as much as one would think.
Maybe his fame was mostly from being at L$U for so long, and their close proximity to the children’s hospital.
Hey Gator n sc - I've kept my mouth (posts) shut about Raymond. He came in with a BIGGGG reputation. But we fans are not at pracice or in the locker room. Sometimes things don't work out, despite resumes. Coach Napier made a decision, yes it was shocking, but the secondary has not been very good and recruiting this cycle for that group has been a disappointment outside Filsame. I heard rumors recently on a podcast that some LSU folks were squaking about Raymond his last couple of years there but you know how that kind of banter is. I have no clue if it's accurate or not because I don't follow the corndogs that closely. What ya gonna do?? Coach made a call. He had a reason. Just hope UF gets a good replacement as coach and recruiter. I Wish coach Raymond all the best in the future.
It accurate. I wanted Raymond back before we hired Torrian Gray the first time, my LSU buds were all more than happy to offer him up. He’s had a poor coaching rep for a while. It wasn’t just sour grapes after they lost him.
I remember a recruiting video that came out following a player, maybe it was Lagway's visit here when he was making videos of his visits, not sure. ANYWAY - they entered Raymond's office with the visitors and camera rolling and he looked so disinterested and was kind of cold. Now I've seen him since in videos and he seemed much warmer, but it surprised me at the time because he had such a good reputation and he almost had a "get out of my office" look. Just figured he wasn't having a good day, but kind of surprising to act that way around recruits walking the facility. Napier would have had a big, welcoming smile on his face.
Ding ding. And how were his Ds at LSU near the end of his Tenure. I’m almost positive LSU fans were ready to see him go, too.
The number of db coaches that are a household name is zero. LSU fans complain a lot. Even more when they're not winning. Sound familiar? Substitute LSU for any letters and it works.
It lets the kids know that Napier isn’t just talking shit. They know way more than we do and I’m certain they aren’t just having beers and smokin a doob. They are working.
