Then there will be no Russia.... Nato has been giving Ukraine old 80's gear that was designed for a war with russia and it's kicking russian 'wunderwaffe' weapons and troops. Imagine if the US gets to use some of their new stuff along with the british and French... The only thing that will be left will be a nuclear wasteland due to nukes being used by russia first then countered by us, french, and british batteries.

My thing is I am pretty sure the west doesn't want a massive country with nukes to go into a civil war and probable be interested in sending in troops to secure the weapons.
Hitler had to go for the rich oil fields in the caucuses they needed materials. His big blunders were diverting forces multiple times and staying in Stalingrad. (amongst well the whole damn war and Holocaust may he rot in the burning pits of hell) the Nazi army wasn't all that great, their tactics were brash and new which no one had a plan on how to contain nor stop it. The soviets had lend lease and a metric shit ton of souls that they didn't care they lost and sent them in waves (similar to right now) I love history, the what if games are interesting to say the least

Polish truckers are holding up aid to Ukraine. Thousands of trucks are backed up at the border. The Polish truckers are upset that Ukraine's truck drivers have access to the EU without a permit being required, and they are upset about it. I don't understand why they would be upset, because truck driver are hired to deliver goods from one location to another, and the permits should be paid for by the business that hired them. Unless Ukraine's truck drivers are delivering things from the EU to Poland businesses, which seems unlikely. It is astounding to me that the EU and Poland cannot overcome this issue, considering what is at stake. As nervous as Poland is about a potential Russian invasion in the near future, I would think they would start arresting or maybe even shooting some of the truckers for treasonous behavior. Can you imagine French truck drivers preventing gasoline from being delivered through France to the Third Army during WWII over permit issues? Patton would have shot a few of the drivers himself. I would think that Poland might want to consider volunteering these men for Ukraine's foreign legion forces. Solves two problems...

Exclusive-Polish trucker blockade holds up Ukraine's volunteer military aid- sources

    My apologies then.

I'm just used to seeing the PUBS "both sides" arguments to avoid admitting their side is really the ones in the wrong.

I am in somewhat agreement that the DEMS should cave at least partially on the border to secure funding, although I haven't really seen what the PUBS demands are there.

So my 100% was off, but I would still say it 95% the PUBS fault.

You are arguing with HOW the President has decided to support Ukraine and deter Russia. I'm no military expert for sure, so I won't attempt to argue with your take there. But will say that I'm fairly happy that we haven't provoked Russia into WWIII (yet), and that our support has allowed Ukraine to inflict major damage to Russia's ability to make conventional war without putting our army at risk.

But Republicans are arguing we shouldn't be supporting them at all.

Seems to be a pretty big difference.

And for the record, I consider myself independent. Fiscal conservative, social liberal. Most of my life I leaned Republican as they were the fiscally conservative, small-gov party.

But they have proven "fiscal conservative" in their mind just means lowering taxes (primarily for the the wealthy and corporations), and socially they have become "big gov". So for the last 15 years or so I've voted primarily DEM. Last several has been straight ticket DEMS because I see how the PUBS are attempting to use lower level gov (school boards, state gove, etc.) to capture higher level gov.

Good post. The strictly military approach to a situation frequently ignores some of the other consequences to a proposed course of action. Biden has done a masterful job getting EU and NATO support for Ukraine. Also, by ramping up the types of weapons being supplied over time, he has avoided the much more serious responses from Russia and its few allies as if we had started supplying them from day one.

A good article describing the humiliating defeat of Russia's naval forces in the Black Sea. Russia has been reduced to using submarines and small surface ships to lay mines, and one of those mines damaged an oil freighter from Turkey (a sometimes ally of Russia). The western side of the Black Sea is now open to commercial traffic, including several million tons of grain shipped from Ukraine to Africa.

Ukraine's Magura V5 drones have a range equivalent to two thirds of the Black Sea, so Russia is limiting the movements of its fleet to stay out of range of the drones.

All of Russia's maritime patrol aircraft are busy in northern waters trying to get Russia's submarines out of port without being followed, so they cannot provide support in the Black Sea.

Time will tell whether this makes a big difference in the Ukraine War or not. But I would rather be on the side of the combatant winning the sea war than losing it.

Ukraine has won a major victory over Russia

Russia's aggression inspires Germany to build its largest warships since WWII. They are building a 545-foot-long frigate that weighs 11,000 tons (about 10% of an aircraft carrier). There are four ships currently under contract, with an option to build two more. Delivery of the first ship is scheduled for 2028.

Work Starts On Germany’s Biggest Warship Since World War II

Russia's front line troops are dropping dead (or getting wounded) almost as fast as Russia can bring in new troops. That can't be good for morale.

Russia may be losing troops on the front lines almost as fast as it can bring in new ones, war experts say
