Can't we just buy the best team in CFB??

    Good question on 1010XL - not what Texas AM did but why not go and buy the best "missing pieces" from lesser brand schools to get up to speed. Veterans not HS recruits

    Assuming we have a QB, decent backs and Trey Wilson we need

    1 more tall WR
    Badass TE
    3 elite OL

    So go poach them from Iowa, Va Tech, Miss St etc. Not dudes currently in portal the best players on lesser teams

    Defense -

    I like some of secondary and young DE's but we need big nasty's up front

    Let's say it's 8 guys , Billy's buyout is 25mm?? 3mm per stud and we compete next season. Or else we pay Billy's buyout anyways?

    No way we can catch up with our current roster compared to the elite teams.

    We are, but other teams are doing it too. Saw somewhere where we were 8th in NIL dollars. Not sure how true that is, but that sounds about right.

    Napier knows he can't compete with the gauntlet next year and this roster. Why not take advantage of a system that appears to be set up in the big schools favor?

    it also gives your top 5 class time to develop and stabilizes the program.

    Here's the thing - I don't think we are competing with the elite in NIL for a one year window . They already have elite talent up and down roster. They may add a few pieces

    We add 8-10 guys not currently in portal and overpay them to come to UF

    I think we will do that, but it would appear that we aren’t tampering like some other teams.

    Right there is new CFB summed up. If we have donors like T Boone Pickens, we will have a title. If not, we better get used to 5-7

    And Texas has been getting whoever they wanted for years with nothing to show for it. I know the portal is new, but the point is it takes more than money.

    How does it not effect team chemistry when a handful of players are multi-millionnaires and the rest get table scraps ?

    This year, yes. They’ve been one of the top spenders for years with 1 NC in the modern era IIRC.

    For years? How many years has the NIL been going on? Seems like Texas shows a direct correlation between donor money and national playoffs...

    NIL and the transfer portal is new, yes. But they’ve been spending money on their football program and getting top Texas talent in forever with little to show for it. Point is, there’s competition in portal shopping and it still will not guarantee success.

    Shopping in the portal is like shopping at the second hand store. There a few quality products to get but the pro shoppers have already come in got a hold of them.

    Correct - buying elite proven D1 talent over HS kids much faster other to success with a zillion times more confidence level

    Sure. But literally being able to go out and pick players and pay them directly allows you to create a championship team. It's unlimited free agency for the big spenders. Unless we have donors ready to match this, we are going to be irrelevant even if we get Steve Spurrier cloned to coach us perpetually.

    We should be. There's no downside to it really. Today's NCAA is gutless and can't do anything about tampering. In the current college football landscape of paid players and free agency we shouldn't have any qualms about throwing money around to get good players.
