It’s true he didn’t have options but to paint him tgat way isn’t fair to him. He may have loyalty.

Loyalty to what? I get what you are saying but I wouldn't call it loyalty.
Staying benefits both parties. We get an experienced QB. Mertz gets to continue playing football while collecting NIL and furthering his education.
He was projected as a udfa in the NFL
And retiring only applies if he was tired of playing football.

I see it as they aren't trying to burn the bridge in case they come back. Idk why they make statements at all before they sign with another school. Seems to me you could just enter the portal, see what offers come in, and then just get out if you want to stay. If you sign somewhere else, then you could make an honest statement of why you left and why you signed somewhere else.

I dont disagree, whos it for? You're gonna get push back from the team you're leaving either way. So what's the point really.

Just stop already. The poor kid was clearly referring to UGA's renowned sanitation engineering program.

He may love being a gator and have a bond with his teammates. Some players love being a gator and wouldn’t think of anywhere else. Some are like Lebron that doesn’t care where he plays as long as he can join a group of guys and win. There’s nothing wrong with that but own it. I don’t blame our young qb for leaving because he would maybe never play another snap but ET will always be a front runner more than likely. Only problem is, football isn’t as easy as basketball to just create a super team. In the nfl, almost no one wins and you need players that fight together to be successful. Derek Henry looks to be on the backside of his career and probably never will win a Super Bowl but he never dipped to be a free agent and join a built team. Guys that stay and fight are just different.

Bottom line, as I see it is, if you don’t want to be a Gator, good riddance, good luck and good by. It’s all GOOD.

He’s no gator to me. Franks on the other hand tried his best to be a gator and just wasn’t good enough. I admire him way more than someone who leaves his so-called brothers when he sees an easier path. he just jumped out of the foxhole, and got on the other side, and started shooting back in the foxhole

Hmm McCord underperforming. That's a good one considering his stats makes Mertz's Wisconsin stats look like an offensive lineman trying to play QB. Let me set all of you dunces straight. Ohio St played 3 of the Top 4 pass defenses this season. Read it 50 times to let it sink in. Ohio St is in the Top 3 themselves. Hate to say this to SEC fans, but the SEC doesn't have the best defenses anymore. We are more like the old Big 10 defenses, good but not great. The Big 10 this year rewrote the record books for best defenses by dominating all of the Top 10 defensive stats. So it isn't a fluke that maybe McCord's 3 of his least productive games were against these 3 top defenses. Yet, his stats were just as good as Mertz's. If I'm Auburn, I'm looking at him and if Auburn lands him or Oklahoma's QB, I'd pencil in Auburn as the SEC champ next year. Freeze is raking in the 5 stars, stealing the best receiver A&M has ever recruited, grabbing another 5 star from FSU and they already are bringing in 2 more 5 star receivers. Freeze is assembling 4 5 star receivers that are tall, fast, and have outstanding football IQs. Imagine when defenses line-up next year and face 4 6'4" receivers with 4.3 speed that can read defenses. If Freeze can assemble just a mediocre defense, which he had this year, and maybe a couple of RBs who can catch, I wouldn't be surprised to see Auburn in the CFP next year. Just don't look at stats without taking things into context. Otherwise, Michigan's QB should hit the portal too because he makes McCord look like Daniels on steroids.

    From my favorite chat bot..

    1. Players are seeking to gain more playing time and/or a better chance to showcase their talent.

    2. Many players feel a lack of support from the coaching staff, leading to a desire for a transfer.

    3. The rise of the NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals, which allows athletes to capitalize on their fame and success beyond just scholarship money.

    4. Players may be seeking a better educational experience at another institution.

    5. Players may believe that they have a better chance of success at a school with a more competitive football program.

    6. Players may seek better opportunities and/or more exposure for themselves and their brands.

Maybe academic opportunities means I’m not making the grades where I am and I need a school that won’t kick me out due to academics??

What a ride it’s been the past 27 years. Y’all are brothers 4 Life. After extra extreme Benny Hinh type prayer and talking to my family I have decided to enter the fan transfer portal. I will have probably 40 yrs left of eligibility. Gator 4 Life!

Well, they're lying. I mean, do you think John Rahm went to LIV because he "wants to grow the game of golf" or because they paid him $300M? Pretty sure McCord (or someone close to him) mentioned that he could get 6-7M on the transfer market. So, do you stay and compete for the job, or take your 6M and change schools?

And this is just going to get more rampant as the kids figure this out.

The traditionalists' only hope is that the system breaks financially, which isn't out of the question. Key will be replacing disaffected boosters with jock sniffers willing to foot the bill.

Everyone doesn't win, conversely everyone doesn't lose. Which will it be for Florida? So far we are hemorrhaging too many good players and too much negativity by Florida fans is part of the reason. Where are the true Gators?

You are living in fantasyland aren't you. Name the last player that UF let go because of grades? I think that might have happened sometime in the 1980's.
