You all need to look all over the landscape if you think this is isolated to just Florida. In fact, most of you have the visual acuity of Mr. Magoo. Ohio St, one loss and they have a major exodus, not just 4 or 5 players, but 9 starters leaving, including their starting QB and most of their RBs. Almost every major Power 5 program is seeing starting players heading to the portal. To me, that doesn't make sense at all unless - said player wants $$$, said player wants to be a championship team, and said player can't get it where they are now. NIL + portal = death of college football. Might as well start winding down the program because it will end at some point for everyone. Look, even the best of the best will eventually not get the $$$ when people stop watching and following the games. It's beginning too much like the NFL and the last time I followed any team was when Emmitt played for Dallas and I was major fan back then. I still have tens of thousands in memorabilia from the 90s. But since then, I've watched a handful of games on TV and that's it. College football is starting to go down that road and at some point, I'll cut myself off there too if the NCAA can't rein in NIL and the portal.
So many drama queens- college football is dead....blah blah... With the 12 team playoff it will be bigger than ever and when UF gets in you will be glued to the TV watching.
Interesting points. If Princeley doesn't whiff a clean tackle against Arkansas florida wins. If Etienne doesn't step out of bounds against Missouri florida wins... Searching for wins that were yours for the taking... Coaching leaves much to be desired but maybe the players have a part in how the season ended as well.
Ohio State can afford to lose guys. They're probably one of the 5 most loaded programs in the country. Now there's a sense that they're not quite top 5 program material so the market immediately reacted. But it's not like we should expect Ohio State to be bad next year. We're in a position where we have like maybe half a dozen reliable pieces, a number of which are underclassmen. When those guys are leaving, it's hard to say we're not in trouble because frankly, I don't want to think about this offense if we didn't have Etienne, Mertz, or Pearsall all year. Thank goodness Mertz is staying, but the dude needs help badly.
Pendulum will need to swing completely off kilter before we swing back to something that’s more sustainable long term. You’ll see this year as a defining moment for NIL in my opinion. Many of these guys in the portal will not have a better home. It’ll be big wake up call. Just watch.
I wonder if there’s a ton of tampering with players prior to them entering the portal. What a shit show of an investigation that would be if it were true and the NCAA had the balls to actually investigate and act upon it.
Nailed it. And it shouldn’t be too difficult for us to be a top 12 program. Just getting to that point and being a playoff contender would do wonders for optics/momentum/progress. But, alas.
Yes, but did any of those guys go 5-7? and have back to back losing seasons? Portal losses are much more palatable when you’re winning 9-10 games.
Anyone know what happened with Kamari? It's not like we had great production at S so something was weird there.
