I know Elon is a lot smarter than me, but I'm not sure his strategy of telling advertisers to go f themselves and then further antagonizing them with memes is going to want them to come back. Disney doesn't need X/Twitter as much he needs them.

This has always been one of the key issues. I said way back in this thread that their installed base isn't that valuable. It is small due to a lack of international expansion. It is older and heavily focused on hot takes on sports and politics. Even the old regime, who, despite Musk's claims otherwise, were actually pretty solid managers, were unable to figure out how to make the platform profitable.

Twitter has two big advantages: the simplicity of the platform and it's ability to easily embed in other media. You have to figure out how to monetize those features. Everything else is not really going to work.

Honestly, I don't think he is that bright in regards to how to deal with people. For example, a very smart person might be able to tell you why the his $8 fee for the blue checkmark would fail based on signaling theory and prospect theory. But even a person of reasonable intelligence would be able to tell you why it wouldn't work, even if they couldn't formulate the answer utilizing existing theories well. That is the notion of "common sense" in its actual form (too many people use it as a crutch to mean whatever their opinion is on a matter rather than what it is, which is utilizing some basic set of knowledge that turns out to be largely true when examined at a higher level).

Yeah I have a hard time processing what I think of him. I see his actions and he is unlikable and deplorable. But if I view those anti social behaviors as consistent with someone on the spectrum it is more understandable.

He is creating a bit of a problem in that how much should we has a nation rely on the whims of somebody who may be unstable for things like critical technologies and space exploration? He just doesn’t get that he has a greater responsibility to society and his employees and shareholders than to just blurt out whatever comes into his head. Is that due to Asperbergers? Or is he a narcissist? Or is he just a rich spoiled brat?

Calm down, Beavis. Both Trump and Biden asked Twitter to keep certain things off the platform. It wasn't just the Dems.

Trump and Biden have publicly known political agenda, such that execs could easily discern if either were trying to manipulate their company's platform for their own political interests.

The FBI and CIA were pushing political agenda under the veneer of objectivity/ political neutrality, by purposely lying about info only they (as intel) were privy to, even making shit up, since their representions could not be verified or challenged independently.

Hard to believe anyone actually yearns for the good old days when the govt had free reign to use twitter as their personal propaganda tool. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

By popular vote no less. Also: “X” added ten million users in November.

Sure. 92% of that accounts followers 53k voted for him. 1% of users.

Nope on Twitter coming back. They are anniversarying their plummeted numbers from this time last year.

    • Usage has also decreased, with monthly active Android users falling 14.8% globally and 17.8% with mobile users in the U.S. year-over-year for the month of September, per SimilarWeb.
    • Average time spent, daily per user, fell 2% year-over-year globally in the third quarter of 2023.Sessions dipped 4% in that same time period, per Sensor Tower.
    • (This bullet point said the number of users twitter was losing is up 30%)
    • Web traffic was down 7% globally and 11.6% in the U.S. for the first nine months of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, per SimilarWeb.

Remind me, what party is the FBI director? Who appointed him? Who was in charge of the DOJ during the presidential election cycle?

Fixed.. just summarized 2 of the points. Bullet points aren’t really paragraphs… but I got it.

Jones may be okay if he is judgment proof. But interesting that Musk polled users to decide a “free speech” issue. Would it have mattered how the vote went?
