I believe the courts will disagree. As long as athletes are on one year scholarships, you can't make them stay anywhere. I'm betting the 'one free transfer' rule will be the next to fall, and not in a good way.

 

You act like the SCOTUS okayed a law that made these college football players employees of their school or state. They did NOT... The NCAA still writes the rules for these STUDENT ATHLETES.

The NCAA still writes the all the rules that do not involve the NIL deals that these players are getting. But the NCAA still controls all other aspects of these student athletes, and that includes transfers.

 

I really don’t know why ETN has been unhappy for awhile. Maybe he wasn’t happy that he wasn’t starting or that our Oline wasn’t great…but dude needs to really learn to pass protect to help his game.

 

Who's money is being spent? This is not the university laying out NIL bucks.

Yep, he never mastered pass protection. But I do believe he should have played a lot more against FSU. I saw one run by Montrell that Etienne would have scored on. And that's when I realized that Etienne had been in the game much at all.

One thing I hate is when a player leaves and he talks about what a wonderful experience he had.

If the experience was so good, then why is he leaving?

 

Its a lot easier to diagnose the death swoon than to identify the next successful successor.

Trell had 12 more snaps than Trev. When you consider the liability Trev is in the passing game, that doesn’t seem too out of whack to me. Trev is a much better runner. Has much better vision and is more explosive but he is a liability in the passing game. Our OL had enough of their own issues.

 

Oh, I hear you on the blocking thing, but truthfully both of them need more work on that part of their game.

 

I think it’s time a lot of these schools just walk away from intercollegiate sports. Maybe support some club sports and intramurals with loose organization, but no scholarships, no tv and no $$$ for overpaid coaches and players. But this semi-pro stuff with hundred million budgets, crazy athlete facilities, and demands for pay is just stupid. Especially at schools that do not have profitable athletic programs or when these demands are coming from non-revenue sports.

If 16 or 20 “schools” want to go ahead and compete for a bought and paid for semi-pro championship then to that i say “good luck with that”. I think UF should put serious thought into this before dumping $400 mill into the Swamp, even though I suspect the wheels are already in motion on that.

well the good news (if there is any) if Coach O does come here he's really good at being an interm coach so he can take over when billy gets the can during the season next year

 

Technically, I guess schools aren’t paying players directly. So it’s “off the books” in a way, but I don’t think this NIL is going at all how it was supposed to. It was supposed to allow the players to seek their own endorsement. It wasn’t supposed to be pay for play or used as a recruiting tool. Instead, it’s become way too structured and obviously used to steer players. Now it’s basically caused a perpetual state of free agency which threatens the very credibility of sport at the college level.

There are very few “profitable” athletic departments (and UF generally is one, with the UAA giving a few million in excess earnings back to the school). But if they were counting all these “side deals” now being put together and booster money, I’m quite sure it’s an irrational money pit for all, including the “most profitable” programs.

 

That's the whole problem. There isn't one. At least not one that is readily identifiable AND obtainable.

 

Gonna have to have multiyear contracts like the pros.

 

Probably wants to play for a winning team with good OL talent and good offensive coaching.
